I can't see this ending well....

Demonstrators Plan to Occupy Retailers on Black Friday

Some demonstrators are planning to occupy retailers on Black Friday to protest "the business that are in the pockets of Wall Street."

While it is commendable that the OWS crowd is trying to think outside the box, I am not sure they have thought this through.  Do you really want to stand between the front doors of a Walmart and the crowd waiting outside in anticipation.  Do they think that their anti-capitalist message will resound with those eagerly waiting in line to consume the benefits of a capitalistic society?

Come the stroke of midnight when the doors open, I think I would rather be standing between a mama bear and her cub.....

Fred Cole: Nice thing is:

If they do this on private property, then they can be arrested for trespassing.

The more obnoxious OWS gets in their quest for media attention, the more people they'll turn off. · Nov 23 at 7:24pm

What is amazing about OWS is that they don't actually understand the concept of public property. When you "occupy" a public park, you are stealing it.  It is supposed to be accessible to everyone.

They're now in high dudgeon over the pepper spraying incident at UC Davis. They really want their Kent State moment and, in a sick way, their martyrs.  Of course, pepper spray by campus cops on a liberal university campus in California against people protesting tuition hikes just doesn't have the same impact.

The "Occupy Retailers" thing is just an extension of Adbusters "International Buy Nothing Day" campaign that has been going on for years.  They have been pushing this lame event for years, and think that the "huge swell of support" that the OWS movement has given them adds weight to their lame campaign.

You see...they are culture jamming against the transparent hegemony.

HVTs: And then it says that Amazon is on the hit list.  How exactly does one “occupy” Amazon.com? · Nov 23 at 8:38

They're probably talking about some sort of hacking or denial of service attack. · Nov 23 at 9:23pm

Yes; from their lice infested pup tents and sleeping bags, using corporate wireless internet service providers and corporate laptops, running corporate operating systems and powered by corporate electricity providers. And let’s not forget the corporate email services used to coordinate this denial of service virtual soiree. All those corporations got financed in some way by “Wall St.” At least the OWS hangers-on are all in the family: the poor cousins of limousine Liberals, who fly their private jets to Global Warming conferences before travelling on to their vacation homes in southern France.

Wow. I'm going to remember this one: "culture jamming against the transparent hegemony."  Hope it's not copyrighted by you corporate 1%-ers. Actually, I don’t care … go ahead and sick your corporate lawyers on me, man. {:-)

Any success they have will only hurt clerks, and hourly wage workers, they very ones they claim to represent. I'm really tired of OWS... I wish they would just go away. Whatever their point was, they made it -- too bad they don't know what it is.

A few years ago there was a spate of articles about how people coming of age, those who grew up in the 90s, etc were raised being told how great and special they are and that life will always go their way since after all, they are just so swell and special... and then how they will react when they find out they find out the world doesn't give a damn about how swell and special they are. Maybe the last few months have shown what their reaction is.

And the results from some precincts are starting to trickle in...

Occupy flash mob fails to impress Walmart workers

The folks from Occupy Orange County might need to work on their delivery if they want to get their message across.

A two minute “flash mob” by members of Occupy’s Santa Ana contingent left some Walmart employees feeling disrespected and confused.

At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, about 20 protesters gathered near the cash registers at the Walmart at Harbor Boulevard and McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana.

The group began chanting a message intended to convey solidarity with Walmart employees and urging them to skip work on the day after Thanksgiving.

The group then marched out of the store chanting “We are the 99 percent.” At least one shopper joined the group and marched out with them, pumping her fist in the air.

Afterward, as the protesters drove away, a handful Walmart employees gathered outside the store’s entrance. One woman called the protest “stupid.” Another said it was “disrespectful.”

So far so good!
