On Jan. 3rd there will be a debate between the candidates to head the RNC.  The most popular questions from this site - www.RNCDebate.org -- will be asked.  Please visit the site, vote for #487 (on ObamaCare Repeal), which isn't just theoretical but has the beauty of being measurable and having practical consequence -- then ask your friends to do so too.

Many thanks, and merry Christmas all!

Drop by and read the questions/comments. It's recess at the asylum over there. My questions had to do with preserving the integrity of the Republican primary process.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but for RNC chairman we need someone who will keep the machinery operating at peak performance, and keep plenty of money in the coffers. Isn't that more important than his/her personal position on issues?

Unfortunately, it seems the majority of the questions on the home page are made with the hope that the candidates will use them to affirm their opposition to abortion rights and gay marriage. These are the positions that these people are most concerned with?

These are the questions that the most energetic clients of the GOP push to the fore. We could all be living in mud thatched squalor, but we will be in heterosexual marriages and there will be no abortions going on.

Labeit, explain to Me "abortion rights." I would like a definition.

A "right" is a sanction to perform a specific act in the absence of interruption. There are from what I understand, moral rights and legal rights. A moral right is a sanction to perform a specific action that a person ought to possess. A legal right is a sanction to perform a specific action that a person does possess. An "abortion right" refers to a sanction to terminate one's pregnancy. But I presume you want me to offer a cursory justification of abortions, yes?

That's a pity, don't you think?

I just voted for you, and voted down a bunch of those early questions which are all the same.  Although Michael, there is a pornography question posted by a Kenneth.  I doubt it's Ricochet Kenneth though.

May I make a suggestion? It's not an editorial edict, just a suggestion. Why don't we keep this thread for the discussion of question 487, on ObamaCare repeal. One of you can start a separate thread, or threads, in the member feed for discussion of abortion, marriage, and whether these are issues that should concern the GOP as much as they do. I suggest this because obviously these are the most divisive and emotional issues among conservatives. I think we may have new members who have been given a Ricochet membership for Christmas. Let's give them a day or two to see how generally good-natured this site is before we drop them in the middle of a debate like this--offer them a drink, some hors d'oeuvres, a bit of small talk first, just so they're comfortable, okay? I'm not saying these topics are off-limits, not at all, just that perhaps they're more conversation-killing than conversation-starting, and it would be nice to get new people involved in a conversation today.

I don't think so either.

Voting on an RNC webpage might make people feel good but how will it repeal Obamacare?

We need to reject the ideology that health care is a right and that rights are discovered by the government class and then given to the masses.  We need to stop paving the road to serfdom.

The Republican leadership has stated they want to fix Obamacare not repeal it since repeal would be "so hard" and they have no spine.

Requiring insurance companies to issue policies to people with pre-existing conditions is supported by the Republican leadership.  Why does the government have the power to require company to accept a customer who likely will cost it more than it will profit?

By accepting insurance companies be forced to accept pre-existing conditions Republicans reject the right to contract, association and the right to free enterprise and profit.

Vote all you want at RNC but we need to defeat the ideology which spawned Obamacare then we can get the federal government out of health care.

The RNC Chairman shouldn't be involved in policy debates, particularly with Republicans returning to the majority in the House.  Speaker Boehner (come Jan 5th) and House Republicans should take the lead on policy because they will be in a position to actually pass legislation.

The RNC Chairman should be focused on three things: 1) the redistricting of House seats for the 2012 election; 2) the reelection of incumbent Republicans at all levels of government; 3) building the infrastructure necessary for the GOP to support a successful presidential campaign in 2012.
