Obama the Conservative
The Los Angeles Times reports:
Obama's March Madness picks decidedly conservative
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama may be a Democrat but his choices of teams to make the Final Four of the NCAA basketball tournament are decidedly conservative.
Obama, a recreational basketball player himself, chose all the No. 1 seeds -- Kansas, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and Duke -- to make it to the Final Four of the tournament in Houston. The president unveiled on Wednesday his March Madness bracket to ESPN basketball analyst Andy Katz at the White House, showing off a detailed knowledge of coaches, star players and team strategy.
Again this year he chose Kansas to win it all, even though he admitted the Jayhawks had let him down in 2010.

Re: Obama the Conservative
From a political perspective, three of the picks are explicable (N.C., Ohio, and Pa. will be swing states in 2012).
Kansas is a real head-scratcher--maybe he owes one to Kathleen Sibelius.
As to political philosophy, I can see how it looks conservative. But, in another sense, maybe he believes this is the proper liberal line and that, not only are these the right picks, there should be a mandate that we all go with the number one picks (a side benefit is that no one's self-esteem will be threatened).

Tabula, the president's picks could equally be described as "liberal:" crony sports snuggling up alongside crony capitalism. Consider that Obama business favorites Goldman Sachs and General Electric are also the largest, most successful enterprises in their respective industries.

Bingo! I think you're on to something.

The freedom-fighters in Libya are being slaughtered, and the victims of the earthquake and the tsunami in norther Japan are freezing to death -- and Barack Obama is spending his time thinking about basketball teams. Next stop, Rio.

Re: Obama the Conservative
What a judicious use of His Majesty's time - basketball picks.
G.W. Bush was very nearly flayed alive in the press for the occasional golf game. He was mocked mercilessly when the press learned that he had stopped golfing out of respect for the soldiers he had sent into battle. BHO plays golf, basketball, attends nice White House parties on the taxpayer's dime while the world spins out of control and the Fourth Estate has nothing to say. Such hypocrites.
This man is not a leader by any standard. It still astounds that he was elected on such tendentious grounds and that he continues to enjoy any support at all. What suckers we are!

You left out the round of golf.
But haven't Japan and Libya suffered enough without suffering more of Obama's attention?
