Gallup released a poll yesterday showing that President Obama's approval rating dropped to below 40 percent, an all-time low. Only 39 percent of Americans approve of Obama's performance, with 54 percent disapproving.

The poll also showed that Democrats have an edge over Republicans in the 2012 elections. Just over 50 percent of registered voters favored Democrats with 44 percent favoring Republicans.

To handle this political problem, Obama is going on a bus tour to Iowa:

Burdened by sagging poll numbers, hamstrung by poor economic news, and trapped in Washington for much of the summer because of the debt ceiling fight, President Obama will seek to reverse his recent fortunes by hitting the open road.

Obama  Monday will embark on a three-state, five-town bus tour deep in the heart of the American Midwest, hoping to tell the public—and potential voters--some small-business success stories and highlight economic development in rural areas. He’ll also be looking to rebut criticism that he’s not focused on finding solutions to bolster the flat-lining economy.

If the bus tour means that he won't be suggesting any further ways to harm a bad economy, I say that bus tour should last for months.

But what do the low approval ratings for both the President and Congress mean? How will that shake out in the coming election?

Amen to that.

Obama still thinks that he is the smartest guy in the room. He still thinks that he is a gold-tongued orator who can whip out his teleprompter and decisively shift public opinion. He is, for all practical purposes, incorrigible. On this tour, he will try to do what he cannot possibly do after being President for two and a half years. He will try to run against Washington. He will whine about Congress. He will denounce the Republicans. And the more he whines, the more he will decline in the polls.

I have said it before. I will say it again. This guy is Karl Rove's Manchurian Candidate -- programmed to destroy progressivism and bring down the Democratic Party.

Well, at least this bus tour will finally create dozens of precious jobs that Obama has talked about.  The snow cone factories and burger joints of Iowa will have to hire sufficient staff to accommodate all of the President's visits with his staff and entourage.

Interesting to me that bus tours have become a thing.  I guess it works ok for a candidate but it seems a little "let them eat cake" for a President.

Campaigning on the public teat. That community organizer ethic oozes forth from every decision. Just don't point out to the man that every day he does that his support will fall even further.

Based on identity politics I said awhile back that I thought he had an approval floor around 35% below which he would never go. I may have underestimated his incompetence.

Somehow I can't read the words "Obama bus tour" without smirking. A bus tour seems so...antithetical to his Ivy League intelligentia, jetting around on Air Force One, premimium Kobe beef appetizer eating persona. How high tech and comfortable will these buses be? Will they be models of ecosanctity?

Did the announcement of the bus tour remind anyone else of the picture of John Kerry waving ears of corn during his 2004 bus tour? http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/breck/kerry_explains_corn_to_teresa.Par.0001.ImageFile.jpg

Once upon a time only drifters and carnies hopped a bus when they saw bottom coming up on 'em.

Glamour is fickle. I suppose late summer in Iowa is as good a place as any if you're looking for lighting to strike you again.

Watch for a fake tea party candidate with financial support from Dem. donors.  Good timing would be around the time of the Republican Convention.  Yet to be tried on the national level, but who knows?

Man, his people better stage-manage those photo-ops really well.  Can you imagine how bad the optics will be if Sarah Palin draws bigger crowds than the President, or if Palin is met with cheers and Obama with boos?

Palin must be just loving this right now.  I can't think of a better way for Obama to elevate her in stature than to try to emulate her bus tour.  He'd better knock it out of the park, or this will backfire on him big time.
