I can't improve upon Michael Paulsen's devastating critique, cited by Troy below, or Tommy De Seno's moving post; however, let me just share our President's reflections on the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“As we mark the 39thanniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters.”

All the standard euphemisms -- Roe isn't about abortion, it's about "health" and "freedom."  But the "broader principle" is the real howler: that government should not intrude on private family matters.

This from a president whose signature achievement is a law that imposes criminal penalties on any individual who refuses to buy a government-designed health insurance policy. How's that for intrusion?

So the Government should not intrude on private family matters, but somehow the type of light bulbs I buy and the amount of water my toilet flushes are matters of National Security?

I'm glad they cleared that up for me.

"[T]hat government should not intrude on private family matters."  Does he really have no clue how indefensible that statement is in light of the massive government interference with how individuals and families live their lives?  Could he really be that clueless?  Or is he just cynical?

Heaven help us.

I think that's an operating assumption of the entire Ricochet community.

Sorry, Adam, Pseudo is sorry for blowing up your thread.  And I find what he did to be completely "unacceptable." [In the same sense that Obama finds Iranian nukes "unacceptable."]

No apologies needed. Obama's statement is so farcical, alliteration is as good a response as any. Besides, the article that Pseud linked to is a great demonstration of the mainstream media's double think on abortion.

I though 'alliteration' did start with a "P."  I thought it was silent, as in "Pseudo?"

Poppycock.

With consciences as ill formed as those who unequivocally support Planned Parenthood, Ad Absurdist arguments are the only ones worth making anymore, and as the Time Magazine article shows, they simply double down figuring that the best way to lift women out of abject poverty is with more forceful forceps. The doctor is simply an unmanned drone in a labcoat.

There is no reason to take Obama seriously other than unfortunate fact that he is the President of the United States.  He is a conch shell with enormous powers.

Of course, because it is on that fiction (that the "privacy" of the mother implies she can kill her baby) that they have set up the "right" to abortion.  They have to continue to support that argument, or Roe v. Wade falls apart.

He also said that abortion allows "our daughters" to "fulfill their dreams".

Blech!

That sounds like a line from a toy commercial.

I used to comment on Mama Toad over at Member Feed. It's fitting here as well, without any obvious comment.

So, how come the same argument cannot be applied to overturn the ban on incandescent lightbulbs, or the individual mandate?

That part aggravated me too.  Remember when he said a baby was a punishment?

I put this comment on Tommy De Seno's great post.  Adam, my boy, it is a great pleasure to put it on yours also.  We need to strike back!

Tommy,

What is so important about your analysis of Roe v Wade is that it's not only about the horror of abortion but it is about an absolutely corrupt law period.  The dehumanization is complete.

According to the standard evolutionary treatment (not that I'm endorsing that) for the last billion years there have been two genders not one.  Roe v Wade is written as if a women is a giant one celled Amoeba.  She is fertile by an unknown process and then gets bigger and splits in half.  The father doesn't exist.  The doctor takes the role of Gd as an omniscient entity who is infallible.

This is the most evil law imaginable.  IT MUST BE STRUCK DOWN!!!!!!!!!

Does he have any clue how tone deaf that statement is?
