Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
Gail Sheehy over at The Daily Beast reports that President Obama couldn't fill seats at a New York City fundraiser for Democrats last night. Held in the Roosevelt Hotel's ballroom, which can seat 650, the fundraiser only attracted 450 guests, despite the fire sale on tickets ($50!). And even at that, the president was heckled by his guests!
Watch Obama being heckled here:
Sheehy writes,
Who would have thought that six weeks before a cliffhanger election, President Obama would have to reach down to the D list to fill a room to listen to him? Most of us low rollers arrived early to see President Obama up close and personal. Our tickets for the general reception at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York were only $100. Some thought the email invitation was a joke. Some bought tickets for $50 from their desperate Democratic committeeman. Some bought the same day.
...
Only after I received four email invitations and two personal calls imploring me to come did I call Speaker Pelosi’s office to check the admission price. “You mean, to be in the room with the President of the United States is now on fire sale for $100?”
”Yup.”
“How long do we get?”
“Half hour.”
“How many $100 givers have rsvp’d?”
“Mmmm 250.”
“Do we need to line up early to get in?”
“That’s not necessary. Everybody will get in.”
This does not bode well for Democrats.

Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
Now we're seeing the radical 'progressives' agitate and press Obama to go much further into darkness. This is pure Saul Alinsky/Cloward-Pivin, where the goal is to "collapse the system" with demands for welfare and guaranteed income.
We're entering a new phase and the mask is coming off more quickly, the curtain is being parted, and the truth is being seen.
Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
This video is so pathetic I almost feel badly for the guy. I said ALMOST. And what an issue to have to be confronted with. AIDS funding? Now?! I know it's a little off topic, but let's be honest about this. There has been so much money pumped into AIDs research HIV positive has gone from a sure death sentence to a survivable disease in less than 20 years. While people suffering from ALS, Parkinsons, MS are all resigned to about the same torturous fate as they were a hundred years ago. And don't get me started on the prevention issue. Why couldn't we have gotten some more relevant protestors in there?

Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
Wow, Obama got elected mostly on his image. He has managed to destroy it in 20 months despite the entire Democrat media propping him up. He is definitely a one~termer.
Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
But surely Obama can't play into their demands. If Republicans clean up in November, as they're expected to, Obama will have to move to the center, like Clinton did, wouldn't he? I guess it depends, in large part, on whether Obama wants a second term, which could force him to temper the progressive in him.

Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
Denise, I agree with you 100% -- first about almost feeling bad for Obama, and second about how irrelevant the protesters' complaints are! I guess it's a sign that things aren't THAT bad when the president is heckled by AIDS activists, rather than people who are on the brink of starvation because they have no money, no house, no job etc.

Let's not worry too much about the guy. He can absorb the attack and it will make him stronger.

Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
Anyone catch that incredibly bad car-in-a-ditch analogy from the second page of Sheehy's article? So much for his vaunted oratorical skills.
I'm not sure which is worse: that our President seems to have developed a persecution complex, or that he honestly believes that everything he's done over the past year was a good faith effort to fix the economy!

Re: Obama heckled at a poorly attended Dem fundraiser
I thought he handled it quite well at the start, "Hey, I'm Barry Obama, I increase funding for EVERYTHING, didn't you hear?"
Then he "promises" that if this election goes poorly, Republicans will cut AIDS funding along with everything else they hold dear....and that's where my sympathy ended. I thought it was the right who engaged in fear mongering... that's what I've been told anyway.
Plus, I seem to remember a certain president...gosh, who was it... who gave more money to the cause of AIDS through his contributions of American taxpayer money to the continent of Africa....who was it....Crawford, Texas....something.... oh well.

Shares in the Slurpee corporation continue to rise.
He's at his best in these situations, when practically nobody has to listen to him and he's not actively damaging the nation. The most useful thing he's done so far occurred under similar cirmcumstances, when he flew to Denmark to personally ensure that Chicago would not get the Olympics. Saved us no end of hassle and expense.

Franco: that is priceless!
I still maintain that the greatest sin of the mainstream media is that Maureen Dowd and Paul Krugman have nationally read columns, yet Iowahawk does not.

Ain't that the truth.
