Obama, President For Life?
The Barack Obama campaign has a new gimmick on its web site that strikes me as slightly creepy. It showcases how "Julia" fares under President Obama and President Romney. It begins when Julia is three years old:
Under President Obama: Julia is enrolled in a Head Start program to help get her ready for school. Because of steps President Obama has taken to improve programs like this one, Julia joins thousands of students across the country who will start kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.
Under Mitt Romney: The Romney/Ryan budget could cut programs like Head Start by 20%, meaning the program would offer 200,000 fewer slots per year.
It goes on. How does President Obama do things when Julia is 17, 18, 22, 23, 25, 27, 31, 37, 42 ... you get the point. He's even still the president when she's 65:
Under President Obama: Julia enrolls in Medicare, helping her to afford preventive care and the prescription drugs she needs.
Under Mitt Romney: Medicare could end as we know it, leaving Julia with nothing but a voucher to buy insurance coverage, which means $6,350 extra per year for a similar plan.
That's kind of weird, right?

Re: Obama, President For Life?
And where does all this money come from? Not from Julia.
Many of these programs are going to implode demographically, in just a few years.

Re: Obama, President For Life?
I think its only weird because we think being taken care of by the state from cradle to grave is weird. We conservatives assume that most of us will take care of ourselves, and that only a few will need help from charities and government. The left assume all of us will be taken care of by the government. The natural state of a human is to be without the means to take care of himself, so therefore it is the right and proper role of government to do it.

Re: Obama, President For Life?
We should counter this with something along the lines of:
Under Obama: Julia gets her medial care paid for by the government, enslaving future generations to negative economic growth and the lowest common denominator.
Under Romney/Ryan: Julia takes care of herself, and lives a long and fruitful life knowing that she earned everything she has in life.

"Weird" is one word. "Despicable" and "loathsome" are two others.

Yeah, if we'd known he was able to see the future we wouldn't have opposed him. All hail the boy-god Obama, for clearly he sees all and knows all.
Mollie, I don't know if it's creepy, but it certainly is telling. Many of us didn't need another, but this is a great look at how the President views the 'perfect' America.

Re: Obama, President For Life?
So if Julia is three in 2012, her share of the debt right now is $50,000. By the time Julia is 21 in 2030 the debt is projected to be $50 trillion.
That would bring her share of the debt up to $137,741. (Based on CBO and census projections)
What kind of life is Julia going to have if we extrapolate that out over her lifetime?

Re: Obama, President For Life?
To echo Ken Owsley, yes it seems weird to us, the the conservative blogosphere has had a lot of fun ridiculing it this morning, but to a great many people it seems rather lovely. The problem isn't with the ridiculously creepy ad per se, it's with all the people the ad will resonate with, people who dream longingly of being taken care of from cradle to grave by the government. If that isn't a majority of Americans (it certainly is a majority in the rest of the world), it's a large and growing minority.

Re: Obama, President For Life?
At first, I laughed; but really? This is a statist, scary campaign.

Here's a great response to the campaign.

Re: Obama, President For Life?
I’ve said this before and I tend to get ignored, possibly rightfully so. However, in light of this story it seems to be good time to repeat:
In the unfortunate event that President Obama is reelected in 2012, I’d be more surprised by there even being ballot in 2016 than finding his name on it again.
Four more years? …. Indeed

The thing that struck me is that, given the intended audience, they used so many words of more than one syllable.

Again, given the intended audience, would she still be pregnant after 3 months?
