Obama Needs to Learn How to Prioritize
Oil prices are skyrocketing as civil unrest spreads to Saudi Arabia and matters worsen in Libya.
Meanwhile, Obama concerns himself with the topic of gayness.
Where do we stand in terms of our position toward Gaddafi? Do we want to see him go or is he better than the alternative? Portions of Libyan oil production are already shut down -- and it's not unrealistic to expect that the entire country's production could come to a halt in a matter of days. What then? And the situation is only bound to get worse if the Saudis lose control of their own political situation. Do we have a contingency plan?
No plan yet, WH press secretary Jay Carney informs us. Due to a scheduling issue, Obama hasn't had the chance to sit down and think about the Middle East quite yet. He'll do that soon though, Carney promises. And we can expect a Reaganesque proclamation on the topic sometime tomorrow. Maybe.

Um, what happened to the relentless focus on jobs?

There was never a focus on jobs. When unemployment rates were highest, you'll recall that Obama focused on promoting pain pills in order to reduce elective surgeries.

But, but...he promised us he "would not rest".
Golfing and vacations, of course, don't count as resting.
Perhaps he should have said, "I will not recreate!"

Why should our president focus on the Middle East rather than the really pressing domestic issues? He's already earned the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in fostering a new tone in that region. Plus, he's trying to keep all the base that he can get for this upcoming election; doesn't want any of them to GOProudly to the other side.

Gaddafi
I've seen this spelled at least three different ways. Are there any Arabs on Ricochet who can give us the proper spelling?

I suspect the variations aren't a matter of "proper" spelling so much as they are differences of opinion about how to represent a sound English doesn't have. The closest I was able to get to it when studying Arabic was: touch the back of the tongue to the uvula and kind of gargle through it. But that was a long time ago and I was never that good at Arabic...

Re: Obama Needs to Learn How to Prioritize
It doesn't matter when he gets around to it. His career in the state legislature, the "vote present" king, indicated all of this. Didn't you notice the ears? He was hired to serve as a coat rack, but wandered into a meeting room by accident. When the boys at Alpha San Sigma notices that he would read anything as long as it was on a teleprompter, the Senate run was the obvious escalation of the prank.
His solution will be a speech. Gasoline will be over $10/gallon by the time he leaves, and he will count that as his greatest accomplishment. He probably ordered Ghaddafi to bomb the oil fields while he was at it to push the price higher.
And it was all Bush's fault, anyway. See how bad that man was???
Ghaddafi is bombing his own people, over 10,000 dead and 50,000 injured when the day started, and Soetoro does not want to make it personal.
And I am using the spelling for Ghaddafi that I see most often in tweets claiming to be from Libyans. I figure it's no worse than any other.

Re: Obama Needs to Learn How to Prioritize
It might be best for the world, in general, when President Obama - the political meddler, divider, narcissist - omits a place or event from his high priorities list. In many arenas, this president's inattention has been a great boon to this country and the rest of the earth's populace.
Although victory for common sense in the next election cycle is not assured, the possibility of it makes my mouth water. 2012 cannot come along fast enough.

Here is the proper spelling: M-a-d-m-a-n.
Alternative spellings like: L-u-n-a-t-i-c and D-e-r-a-n-g-e-d are also acceptable.

The headline on Drudge reads: "Obama still 'grappling' with gay marriage".
I just hope that this hasn't come as a surprise to the First Lady.

Re: Obama Needs to Learn How to Prioritize
I'm gay and I think DOMA is vile but I'm far, far more concerned with what's happening in Libya. I was glad the president managed to clear up his scheduling conflict...until I actually watched him speak, roundly condemning the violence in Libya without ever once mentioning the name of the man responsible for it. He's paving the way for a return to normalized relations after this little "skirmish" is cleared up, just as he did with Egypt. It's pathetic, and embarrassing, and cowardly.

That is the plan.
The conflagration in the Middle East has sufficient kindling to drive scarcity and the price of oil soon enough to the level at which federal rationing of consumption will be the only “solution.”
Once the precedent for gasoline rationing vouchers is established, then our historic first Islamic apostate president will announce that his-my-I program is such a success that rationing vouchers will extend further into our daily life—in exchange for 90% taxation on income and government appropriation of private financial assets.
Saying we can’t wait for 2012 doesn’t help because we know who will win. Hope, rather, Castro will soon pass, then Cuba will be the answer to the question: where do we go?

There is more than one way to skin this cat. The Regime has been chomping at the limitations of office, bridling at the very suggestion that the Constitution applies to them. But the instruments of power are sworn to uphold the Constitution, not the executive.
If we are steadfast and Madison & co. did their jobs well, and I believe they did, 2013 will bring a new day in American politics.

Federal gasoline rationing vouchers won’t be a political liability in 2012, they will be in his iron-fisted hand to control of the outcome of the election.
The Republican candidate will argue for their end, our historic first Islamic apostate president will argue “middle America cannot afford $12 per gallon gasoline” and warn “no one can afford to heat their home without these subsidized vouchers.”
His union network will then do what’s necessary at that ballot box.

Yeah, me too. His administration is enough of a horrible nightmare; his re-election will be a nightmare too horrible for words but, the fix is in, I really think the creep is going to get re-elected. It makes me sick. What's the matter with us?
Re: Obama Needs to Learn How to Prioritize
Charles Gordon, you have the very good beginnings of a gripping dystopian novel. I think you should flesh it out some more.
