Nuclear Turkey--Just What the World Needs!

I don't know how much credence to give this report that Turkey is "moving rapidly" to acquire nuclear weapons. But if this part is true, it gives new meaning to the word chutzpahdik.
Ankara is seeking to justify its quest for nuclear weapons by arguing that with or without the approval of its Western allies Turkey has to develop such capabilities because a nuclear Iran next to its border puts Turkish national security under threat.

I had never heard of Tom Lehrer until just now! Such a funny song, despite the fact that today's answer is "Iran." Assuming they haven't finished the project in the past few hours, of course.
On the bright side, the words "Nuclear Turkey" bring to mind a hilariously inept superhero. He flies short distances! He gobbles! He... claws bad guys, maybe?

I nuked a turkey once. The new microwave apparently was a lot more powerful than the old microwave.

I wonder if there's any point at which we would be willing to accept that all nations can have The Bomb. Invention can't be undone. The discovery has been made and the know-how will not disappear. The main reason everybody doesn't have nukes already is that the resources (money, radioactive minerals, nuclear physicists, etc) necessary to put that know-how into action aren't easy to come by.
So, basically, we're playing for time. And that makes sense. Why passively accept the strengthening of one's current and potential enemies? But does there eventually come a time when too many nations have The Bomb to worry about another nation joining the fold?

I love this thought experiment on nuclear deterrence and "when to push the button".
