No Sluts on Ricochet

Rob, I don't care if everyone else is talking about it. We simply do not use that word on Ricochet. We propose to pretend this national disgrace isn't happening.

How about anti-religious liberty activists? Are those okay?

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
The male equivalent insult is coward. One of the most telling differences between men and women is what they take the most offense to.

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
Claire, Do we have sluts in this country. What would you call a woman who goes out on a weekend night and has prepaired in advance to maybe have sex for, lets say, for entertainment, for fun.
Men and women are different. Thank heavens. Men have the responsibility and should have respect to take 'no' as a no; and women have a responsibility to say it.

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
I saw that word in John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress". But he seems to mean a messy or disorderly female child--not woman. I'm temped to go looking through the book so that I can quote him.

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
The word that came to mind when I heard the testimony was "opportunist."
I think "slut" is a hardcore word and too specific in its connotations to be an effective descriptive.
Once, when I was in high school, I used the word to describe a friend who had taken in with a particular crowd. I implied something in saying it. Once said I could not take it back. She forgave me, but could never forget it. Its an ugly word that cannot be taken back.
There were so many other other problems with her testimony that I really wish Rush had thought more about his choice of words. I am sure he feels that way too.

What about S.L.U.T. or Statist Libertines Usurping Taxes. Works for me.

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
Earlier today I used S.L.U.T. in a comment to a post on the member feed. My sincerest apologies as I did not intend to besmirch the reputation of the trolley nor the citizens who ride it. I just don't think the rest of us who prefer to abstain from wanton use of the trolley should have to pay for others who choose to ride the S.L.U.T.

...except, I guess, in headlines? But then, Rob would be OK too....
Sorry. PC confuses me.
Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
Sorry, I have to disagree. There's entirely too much Victorian delicacy surrounding this word. It's a rude thing to call someone, sure. But it's silly to start red-lining words that appear in Shakespeare, of all places.
And Timon of Athens:
I make no argument, nor take a stand, on Rush's -- or Ed Schulz's -- use of the word. But I submit that context here is important. Or should we print a warning on the cover of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare?

A rumor has started that Yeti may run a 3 day poll for the use of the word "harlot" in its place. Just sayin'.

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
'We' can hardly ignore the plight of the libidinously gifted. The verbal shaming, social ostracism, and, indeeed, even rank hatred showcased by this debate proves this to be a grave civil-rights crisis, ranking alongside people who marry their pets and those who amass absurdly large collections of troll dolls. The true national disgrace here lies upon the shoulders of those who abjectly refuse to accept these poor, benighted souls (homo sapiens ribaldus) exactly as they are and thus obviously rendering them horribly oppressed. Before we even attempt anything else we must form comittees, comission studies, and hold innumerable summits to divine exactly what new laws need enacting and how many new Departments of Libidinal Justice Departments need creating to force us to abandon our ignorace and bigotry.
As caring, loving people who value the opinions of their small, closed circle of peers above any and all else, how can we possibly deny ourselves the wealth of diversity which would insue if we would just embrace our differently-moraled brothers & sisters, instead of pretending they just don't exist or, horrors-of-horrors, might be wrong?

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
I finally am getting it that the libs can say anything because they say anything goes (didn't somebody call Sarah Palin the "c" word and even mainstreet libs thought it was hilarious?) and they claim no rules. The conservatives, on the other hand, are highly imperfect, but have outlined codes of conduct to strive for. So the libs blast the conservatives for every every infraction, while yucking it up when their fellow libs do and say the grossest things. You could think it would be easier or more fun to be a lib, but the degradation of life on the lib side, the lack of dignity, with no goal of doing better, is actually not fun.

It seems to me that sticking our heads in the sand is exactly what got us where we are.
(The above sentence is a string of cliches. Sue me; I'm too tired for originality.)

How about she keep her Man-Dates off my insurance policy?
She wouldn't need contraception otherwise.

Re: No Sluts on Ricochet
The issue I find offensive is the notion that there is some right or obligation of the government to subsidize contraception. Vilifying this woman for sexual promiscuity is beside the point at best.
