So, let's put this in terms as simple as possible: What do we now? Tell us in the comments.

Re: Next Steps
I think we put away forever the illusion that a permanent rapprochement between Christianity and secularism was possible.
We get much more serious about a return to the real Source of our hope.
And we start evangelizing.

I feel like giving up. Washington State has elected Jay Inslgo as its governor. The man is a complete buffoon. Most of us are just not paying attention, or worse want a european social democracy. I'm flummoxed.

First we pray. And then we get up, learn more, get to work.

Re: Next Steps
I think we start running on conservative principles and holding the 1. Bible, 2. Constitution, 3. Declaration of Independence dear. We stop trying to run a marketing campaign based on fear of standing for something.

Assuming the projections are correct, which is entirely likely, Pray that Obama turns out to be Bill Clinton 2.0.

Turn out the lights the American party is over. As I get the complete results tomorrow I will outline why our cause is lost.
Me? I'm going to forget politics and focus on my family, my religion and my business.

First order of business - pass 90% tax rate on incomes over 1 million. Vast majority of those people voted for the Dems anyway, and at least we'll make a small dent in the deficit.
If we're going down, might as well hit the gas instead of wearing out the brakes first. Why delay the inevitable?

And, we remember that most Saints have been forged during times of hardship, struggle, oppression, and persecution.

I think the party will split along Mike Huckabee/Rand Paul lines. I think the Huckabee wing has run its course for the time being and the Paul people would be great if they weren't isolationists. I think our best hope right now is a Rubio ascendancy that incorporates the best parts of the Paul wing without the isolationists bent coupled with a conservative solution to immigration. This is just off the top of my head, I'm probably too despondent to think straight.

We finish our bottle of bourbon. Then we sleep. In the morning we determine whether or to give in to despair or to become reinvigorated with purpose.
Edit: We also look forward to the newest podcast. Come what may, Ricochet will remain. For whatever it's worth, that honestly gives me comfort.

Re: Next Steps
1) Analyze the coalition of youth, professionals, single women, non-Cuban hispanics, and African-Americans that the President and Democratic Party has put together. What binds them? What philosophical outlook motivates their particular policy demands? What cultural and social trends do they embody?
2) Re-evaluate the message of the GOP and conservative movement in light of the answer to number one. We need to do some serious soul-searching. What are our core beliefs, and what other beliefs are we willing to sideline in order to gain power? For example, recent GOP ham-handedness in the realm of sexual morality quite probably doomed Romney's campaign in the last few weeks. How much is the movement willing to sideline abortion, gay marriage, drugs, and other social issues in order to press for entitlement reform, school reform, tax reform, a strong military, etcetera?
3) Take another look at deeply ingrained stereotypes about the GOP and movement - that it's the party of the "establishment," whites, and the wealthy. Why have those stereotypes sprung up? Is there some basis for truth in them? What, if anything can be done to mitigate/eliminate them?
4) Don't Panic
5) DON'T PANIC

Who needs jobs when you have daddy government to give you free stuff?
Dependency is a powerful drug - the country is mainlining it now.

Re: Next Steps
Find something other than politics to occupy our times with in the next year. We hunker down and carry on through the bad times of Obama's bungling, as best we can. We stop expecting greatness, and settle now for a comfortable mediocrity. If we are lucky we can make ourselves into Germany and not Italy.
On the bright side maybe Obama will go mad with spending glee and triple the funding to NIH and NSF and then I can have a good time doing research somewhere. I always feared a responsible Republican would end up slashing their budgets in an attempt to balance the budget.

Re: Next Steps
If Obama had any humility, he would have moved to the center after the 2010 election. Praying can't hurt, but as they say in Israel, it's like talking to the Wall.
