Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
Time to turn our attention to a contest that'll be fun to watch: Tebow versus Brady.
Playing in Denver on Sunday, Tim Tebow's Broncos will be trying to sustain the momentum they've developed since the amazing 24-year old was named starting quarterback (under Tebow the Broncos have won seven of the last eight games) while Tom Brady's Patriots will be looking to secure a place in the post-season. From Reuters:
Tebow, the unorthodox, college-style quarterback whose very public displays of religiosity have polarized opinion and whose technique led many critics to write him off as a pro, has simply been the story of the 2011 NFL season so far.
The 24-year-old signal caller is well aware his counterpart in Sunday's game represents, in many ways, the gold standard in the NFL. After all, Brady has won three Super Bowls, was named the most valuable player in two of the championship games and has earned six Pro Bowl selections."He's a master of so many things at the quarterback position," said Tebow.
"He's been one of the best in the league for a long time."
Tim Tebow may be doing a Tebow already.

This long-time Patriot fan loves Tim Tebow. Win or lose, he's an inspiration.

Tim Tebow is an amusing phenom whose life and morality are an inspiration to me as a father and a Christian. His passing skills are so poor it is near comedy. Tom Brady is pure hall of fame. The disparity in aerial talent is profound.
Look for Denver's running game to establish itself on the Pats lousy D with an occasional bomb to test the poor corners. A running game lowers the play count and wastes time. Should Denver be successful and not fall too far behind then watch out for Tebow Time late in the fourth.
Bellicheck is notorious for removing a teams biggest threat so 8 in the box with a spy on Tebow is likely. On offense, Brady better get protection or he is in trouble vs Denver's tough D. I expect Brady to chew Denver up easily and win by 3TD's if he has time.
34-13 New England if Brady's line holds( I will bet accordingly as this is my prediction)
20-17 Denver off some miraculous luck and TT's grit if Brady gets hit repeatedly.

Big-time Bronco fan here: go Tebow! I just wish he'd start to run his two-minute drill at the beginning of each game instead of at the end.
This will be a tough one for the Broncos, but I have faith in Tebow's faith.

Don't start watching the game until the beginning of the fourth quarter

Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
The Vikings put up 32 points on Denver with a gimpy-legged QB, no receivers, and their star running back injured. That shows that they can be scored on, so you can bet that Brady will win a shootout.
Denver got 35 points because Minnesota's Division II college secondary left one receiver uncovered 4 times when rookie corners and safeties took the bait and ran up to tackle Tebow, who threw instead. Matchup to watch: the very quick Elvis Dumerville pass-rushing against rookie Patriots tackle Nate Solder.
I love Tebow, because he shows the true embodiment of a young man who still takes his relationship with Jesus seriously at the pinnacle. But I think New England will win the game pretty easily. The 4th quarter heroics tend not to work against the Patriots unless you are named Manning.

Tebow has been a fantastic story, but all good things must come to an end. For the Broncos that end, is this Sunday.

Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
Tim Tebow who has trouble throwing the ball versus the worst secondary in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. Should be interesting. What kind of dasterdly schemes will the evil genius Bill Belicheck use against the sainted and cannonized 24-7 on ESPN annointed by our dear lord Tebow? I'm on pins and needles.

Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
Commentators, players, fans, and opposing coaches make a mistake if they underestimate Tim's passing abilities. He has a very strong and usually accurate arm. He is very smart with the ball and will not throw very many interceptions. He does not care about his statistics, so he throws the ball away, often. In the Bear's game, he had at least five superb passes dropped by receivers. The one interception was an amazing catch by the defender when his receiver fell down. I've seen every college and pro game in which Tim Tebow has played. I will not and cannot predict the outcome of football games and I respect Tom Brady as a pro quarterback, but don't be surprised at anything you see of Tim Tebow. He is a courageous and disciplined athlete. Watch him when the game is on the line, he is totally focused. His coaches have been very conservative with him while he learns the pro game. He's learning fast.
Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
Now that he's no longer giving LSU fits, I like him.
Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
You touch on something really important here, Doc. Tebow's 24--in some ways, still just a boy. And, as all my friends who know football really well keep telling me, the pro game truly does take time to learn. Tebow may have an unconventional technique, but I'm with you, Doc. Win or lose, the kid has already demonstrated that he's just a remarkable athlete.

Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
I'm a Cleveland native, but not masochistic enough to care about the Browns. When I first got really into football, the franchise didn't exist, so I have been a Packers fan since the mid-90s. Needless to say, I'm happy. But I'll be shooing away the family that's over for Christmas so I don't miss this game.

Brady -- a 6th round pick, remember -- can tell Tebow a thing or two about not getting respect from the NFL.

Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
The issue with Tebow is not his heart, it's that his mechanics put a ceiling on his development. The problem is that Tebow has an extremely slow delivery, and when you try to speed up a guy with a slow delivery, he inevitably loses accuracy.
On the other hand, why can't we leave him with a slow delivery? Because football is a game of fast decisions, and incredibly fast athletes. If a defensive back can recognize where one QB intends to throw the ball a half-second sooner than with other QBs, that translates into two or three steps. That means that for a receiver to be open for Tebow, he has to create two or three extra steps of separation - which is hard enough as it is.
By contrast, that's what makes Brady so good. Brady makes quick decisions, he's hard to read, and he has a quick release. Brady gives his receivers an extra three or four steps, because defensive backs can't anticipate where he's going.
I like Tebow, and admire what he's done ... but between the two, I'd definitely take Brady first.

Re: Newt versus Mitt? No. Tebow versus Brady
I teach at a university in Estonia, and when it came up in lecture this week that I was born in Denver, one of my students Tebowed me.
What's going on here is starting to bleed beyond sports fans, nationalities, and even continents. Many of the locals I know CAN'T understand the game, find it too bizarre. But they know bottled lightning when they see it on television. I can't imagine what would happen if Denver is actually able to beat the Brady bunch this weekend.
One thing is certain; the expat bars should be filled Sunday night to find out.

Exactly. Brady, Rodgers, and Brees do at least half of the work at the line in pre-snap reads; that "head work" combines with a tight motion gives a distinct advantage over everyone else. Others- Cutler- have a naturally good motion and fast release that allows them to read and react fast enough to be relatively effective.
A college option and shotgun guy, by nature, has pre-snap handicaps. Perhaps Tim can learn......
