Erratic as he's been, I'm beginning to wonder if he's finally found solid ground on which to plant his flag and fight. I keep re-reading what Troy and Charles Murray have said about him and wonder.

Close associates of Scrooge McDuck, at the very least.

Yep, that's the Gingrich Who Stole Christmas, the abrasive, high-negatives grump who can't possibly appeal to enough voters and win the general election...that's more than nine months away!!

Quite possibly, and if they've cheated on their taxes, they are a shoe in for sure.

George Savage: Try to picture Mitt Romney having this much easy fun at a lectern.  Nothing coming to mind?  Me neither.

Romney and Obama both have the problem that when they tell a joke, it's very obvious that they are in a forced joke-telling mode, and when they successfully reach a punch line, they don't just pause for laughter, they wait like puppies expecting a pat on the head.

It's worth remembering in these perilous domestic times that Newt can be even tougher than he is funny.  I enjoy, sometimes revel in, Newt's turn of phrase and Mark Twain-like humor, but in a time of domestic strife I can't picture Romney making the tough decisions quickly enough to have a moderating influence.  I have no such reservations about Gingrich.

Exactly!  Politics is so rough, and so tricky, that only the best can really enjoy themselves.  Ann Coulter will throw a dishwasher at me for saying so, but in this clip Newt places himself in the rhetorical tradition of Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan.  When Newt's good, he's that good.

I have to agree with you Peter. He's definitely been working on his pacing and his timing and the news reports I read is that he eats up the press attention when he walks into a room. He could have an off debate, lose his temper or run out of cash or organization, but, right now, he's definitely on the upswing and the Angry Badger looks like the Happy Hedgehog.

I missed Charles Murray's comments, Pseud.  Could you provide a link?

I think Goofy is just doing the photo op out of respect for the office.  I have it on good authority he was pulling for Gary Johnson.

I'd really like to see a live Newt-Coulter match up.
