In stand up comedy, timing is everything and his timing here is pitch perfect.

Someone's been studying footage of Reagan telling jokes on the stump.

You can't tell me that Newt isn't having fun.

I'm sorry.  He's growing on me.

Oh my...   Humor, used with a light touch, to lampoon the pomposity of the Obama Administration.  No stammering, no apologies, no mean-spiritedness,...this clearly won't do. I'm sure the independents are mortified.   We obviously need more equivocating, more fence straddling, more of the confidence-inspiring non-statements that evidently would typify a Romney administration.

There is also this clip from Face the Nation, which, I believe, shows a disciplined Newt with his eye on future contests.

Great job, Dave, you have just demonstrated why Newt is not, in fact, the conservative he claims to be. No, he is not a conservative at all. As you will recall from the last two decades or more, the left has conclusively shown that 1) all conservatives are mean-spirited and 2) no conservatives are clever or funny. Bringing the syllogism home, then, we find that Newt is not a conservative.

I hereby extend my apologies to Ann Coulter.

From which points we can conclude that Romney is Barry Goldwater.  This is like eating ice cream too fast.

The alliteration police are after me.

Try to picture Mitt Romney having this much easy fun at a lectern.  Nothing coming to mind?  Me neither.

I submit that, faced with a largely hostile media, a Newt-like ability to thrust, parry and, yes, have fun will prove essential.  I don't think Romney's default discomfort and Santorum's signature peevishness will carry over the heads of the chattering class, even when they're right on the merits.

Methinks Newt watched Peter's Uncommon Knowledge interview with Rob Long and Mark Steyn on Ronald Reagan.

Am I mistaken, or is making fun of the opponent an Alinsky-ite, tactic?

If Mickey Mouse and Goofy are in the Obama cabinet does that mean they are also former Wall Street bank executives?
