White House officials on Wednesday attempted to quell criticism that President Obama dodged a national debate over guns in his State of the Union address and announced that the president would address the issue soon.

But aides sidestepped questions about when Obama will talk about federal firearms policy or what he would say.

"I wouldn't rule out that at some point the president talks about the issues surrounding gun violence," Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said aboard Air Force One on the way to an event with Obama in Wisconsin. "I don't have a timetable or, obviously, what he would say."

As president, Obama has never delivered substantive remarks on gun policy, one of the most volatile and divisive domestic issues, out of fear of roiling swing voters in rural areas, the Midwest and the South.

Please do, Mr. President, please take up this issue.  Please, please, please.  You could not make our efforts to defeat you in 2012 easier.  And while you are excelling at dumb ideas, please replace Joe Biden with John McCain before the Republican's snatch him up.

"Civility" requires a more erudite response, dear Kenneth.  Translated from the Greek it sound like molon labe.  A word or two to those in the know.

Helplessness has never been a source of peace and tranquility, either locally or nationally. Because the choice between surrender, or death, is not enough of a choice--not for most of us. And if you can somehow remain helpless, and free, then you're obviously imposing on someone else to defend you from evil, and you're making their life more dangerous. Defense is never free. Someone needs to be prepared to defend when you're in danger, and why not the someone with the most to lose? You.

This would guarantee a red Pennsylvania in 2012.

It's an unforced error.  The Obama White House is in disarray.  The gun control moment passed weeks ago.

I hate underestimating the enemy, but this is further evidence they really are as stupid as suspected.

Gotta do something about that excessive gun clinging. It leads to unfortunate incidents like Tuscon, right?

Or as we Texans said at the Battle of Gonzales, which started the Texas Revolution on October 2, 1835: "Come and take it."

I don't understand the thread title. What's the evidence Obama is planning any new gun control?

If you Google "Charlton Heston Greek", the results are interesting.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

Obama said he was for Gun Rights.  I heard him say so in a speech before the 2008 election.  All my aquaintences told me I was being uptight over nothing after his speech.

How could this happen?

Ah, see, you didn't check the expiration date on his deeply held position.

Don't feel bad, it's a common mistake.
