A Congressional ethics panel found Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel guilty of 11 of 12 allegations of violating House ethics rules.

Rangel, who had boycotted his own hearing a day earlier, was not in the chamber when the committee chairwoman, California Rep. Zoe Lofgren, announced the verdict.

"We have tried to act with fairness, led only by the facts and the rule of law," said Lofgren.

Rangel had been facing 13 charges, but the bipartisan committee combined two of the charges.

Rangel was acquitted on the charge of bringing discredit upon the House of Representatives.

Hehe, I went to the NY Daily News site to continue reading the story -- mostly, I was interested in what the consequences of Rangel's ethics violations will be -- and found this funny line:

While it's unlikely the panel will recommend expelling the Rangel from Congress, he does face censure or a possible reprimand - and lasting damage to his reputation.

Typo? Probably. But funnily reminiscent of that Quantitative Easing for Dummies video in which the characters call Ben Bernanke "the Bernank."

You may be onto something, Diane... all sorts of things would make more sense if prominent Democrats were actually Muppets or Dr. Seuss characters!

How long has this investigation been going on-two, three,or more years? So right at the moment the committee is about to announce its judgments Rangel fires his lawyers. Now he claims they are forcing him to be judged without legal representation. This just proves once more, the most important characteristic of a politician is the confounding ability to make truth look like a lie.

It's possible, all right. It's just that you'd have to convict The House of Representatives for bringing discredit upon itself. Or maybe that's what Americans did in the last election.
