Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, in his State of the Union rebuttal Tuesday night, will call for an end to “Washington’s spending binge” that Republicans contend has hampered job creation and piled debt on future generations.

In rejecting Obama’s planned call for “targeted investments”—which Republicans contend is a metaphor for more stimulus spending—Ryan reportedly will respond that the “spending binge” of the past two years failed to stem historic unemployment and the nation’s largest deficits. Instead, he will emphasize the need to cut federal spending in order to boost job creation.

Ryan also plans to make clear that Congress will not approve Obama’s call for an increase in the debt ceiling until a sweeping agreement has been reached in the coming months on both spending cuts and longer-term spending reforms.

I hope he'll simply lay out the math and possible scenarios of what taxes, interest payments, Soc. Sec. & Medicare projected insolvency dates will be if President is allowed to continue on current path (if we do nothing, SS is insolvent in the year..., if we make the retirement age XX, we extend that date to XXXX. I also hope Republicans challenge this notion of "investments" vs. plain old spending - its way past time to demolish this myth.

I really like this, as well.  I want to see the Ryan from his interchanges with Obama - he contrasts exceptionally well. although he won't have Obama's peevish superiority to play off.

I would love to see Ryan come off as the sober guy explaining why his drunk friend shouldn't fly to Vegas and get married with exotic dancer he just met.

All I care about is that the talking heads don't get away with talking about this being a "move to the center".
