The Republicans won the House, the Democrats kept the Senate, and the GOP won the tiebreaker, capturing a majority of the nation’s governor mansions.

Republicans on Tuesday wrested control of at least 10 statehouses from Democrats as they rode an anti-incumbent wave that will give them more than 30 governorships.

Democrats controlled 26 of the 50 statehouses before Tuesday's election, and Republicans needed to win 20 of the 37 contests to seize a majority. They won in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Tennessee, Kansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Iowa, New Mexico, Ohio, and Wisconsin -- all of which currently are run by Democrats.

One of the biggest winners last night, for sure, was Ricochet's own Haley Barbour. Ten new governors owe their jobs to the leader of the Republican Governor's Association. That's not nothing, as they say, when you're running (or thinking about running) for president. It's good to have friends in important states, like Iowa.

I don't think it was "an anti-incumbent wave." It was pro-Conservatism.

Wisconsin (I believe) was the only state to turn-over a Senate seat, Governorship, and State House into GOP control. We also flipped two US House seats as well.

Not bad for a state that went 56% for Obama two years ago.

Yes, but CT went Democrat. Sigh. I'm sorry everyone.

Wow! Slightly OT, but I don't know why I didn't think of visiting everyone's favorite bass fishing buddy's website before today!

Some of his tweets the last few days have been comedy gold!

Oops. Fred's site has paid memberships, so I hope this isn't seen as Ricochet unfriendly. I was noticing the tweets.

Holy Crap, dude! We got Fox contributing now? WHen did this happen? Thanks, Rupert.

Course, Tennessee wasn't much of a change. Even the Dem governor was dissing his party, and not in a struggling to save his skin way. Overall, a fine job by Haley Barbour.

As one of those without TV (I also don't take a paper), thank you for the news links and the new headlines tab.

Well, I'm hoping Haley Barbour can send his attack dogs in for this one. This very confusing article makes it seem that they jumped the gun calling it for Malloy. Foley hasn't conceded, has he? I think there's a glimmer of hope, PJS. Please, Haley, shine the spotlight on this one for us?

True. Current Governor Bredesen was a very popular mayor (Nashville) and is a very popular governor. Lots of Republicans voted for him. I mean - lots and lots. He ran a fiscally sound ship. He comes from a business background. He's a very smart and reasonable guy. If he weren't limited by term restrictions (a good thing, imho), he probably could have sailed to a third term. We all hope Haslam does as good a job.

Tennessee has been moving steadily toward the Republican party since we moved here 20 years ago. We now have two Republican senators and 7 out of 9 Republican House members (including the fairly awesome Marsha Blackburn). The two Democrats are from the urban hearts of Nashville (Cooper) and Memphis (Cohen). And Cooper barely won his seat back this go-round.

Both houses of the Tennessee state government are now Republican as well.
