Go ahead and name it after the guy... Might start your day with a smile if you had to go there and deal with government folk.

Need somebody with that name to run in current politics..Take it from there..

In Wisconsin we have a state park named after a WW2 war hero, Richard Bong. Except, for some reason it isn't called a "park", but rather a "recreation area".

So when you drive by exit 340 on Interstate 94, you see a sign that reads "Bong Recreation Area".

How many times did the copy writer put in the name just to hear the reporters repeating it over and over? Hahaha.

Did anyone else notice the name of the guy in 2nd place? Johnson. Of course.

I lived in Fort Wayne for 14 years. The fact that this is happening surprises me not at all. Growing up, his name was something of a local joke but at the same time he was the best-regarded former mayor. Though until Paul Helmke, mayors of Fort Wayne were not exactly known for being admirable. Win Moses, the most popular after Harry Baals, was widely believed locally to have had a critic brutally raped and murdered in the mid-80's. This is why I admit to being a New Yorker by choice and a southerner by birth but generally leave my time in Indiana out of the discussion...

I kept watching this over and over again to prove to myself that it wasn't from The Onion.

That said, I love it.

The first time I visited Vietnam, back in 1993, I discovered that the currency there is called the "Dong," which you think might be funny for a little while, but then you get used to it and it isn't funny anymore.

Wrong.  It's funny the whole time.  Weeks and weeks of funny.

Put your Dong on the table.  I'm carrying a lot of Dong.  Here, hold my Dong while I go to the men's room.  I'll let my Dong do the talking.

My inner 11 year-old boy just couldn't stop laughing.

So I say to Fort Wayne:  Do It!

All time favorite post. And comments. Rob, thank God for you.

When I was a teenager, my big brother's friends referred to me as "Little Miller."

Boy, I'd hate to be "Little Baals."

And speaking of dongs... the North Koreans have a somewhat-nuclear missile named the "No Dong." Steyn points out in America Alone: "In Korean, 'dong' means 'dong' and 'no' means 'big swinging.'"

When I lived in Vientiane there was shop with a sign above the door: "Long Dong Tailor".  When I went back a couple years ago I looked for it, but, alas, he must have been sent to re-education camp. The 2nd greatest regret of my life was not getting a picture. The greatest regret is not having dinner with David Duke and Noam Chomsky when they were both in town.

Actually, dong [洞] means cave in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese, although the pronunciation is different in each. Japanese say dou and Chinese say tóng.

The Vietnamese currency "Dong" comes from Chinese: 銅 meaning copper or bronze and is pronounced dou in Japanese.  Notice that the right-hand side, the phonetic radical, is identical to the above character for cave.
