Republicans thundered into the majority in the House of Representatives Tuesday night, making historic gains by a proportion not seen in more than 70 years.

The party so far has won more than 60 seats, with about 65 net gains projected by the time all ballots are counted -- far more than the party needed to seize the majority. Democrats, with the help of a victory by Majority Leader Harry Reid, held the Senate by a narrow margin but suffered several big losses in an election that just about put Republicans on equal footing with the president's party.

House Republican Leader John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters Wednesday morning alongside his deputy, Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., claimed a "mandate" to cut the size of government and urged President Obama to respect the will of the voters and "change course."

This is the right start: just keeping saying the same thing, Speaker Boehner. It's about "the size of government." And only about the size of government. Make sure everything you do fits into the general theme, and this all might turn out okay.

The Dem dinosaurs like Oberstar and Dingell are stunned right now but when they get over it in the next week or two they are going to be very, very ticked off. How dare those little people throw me out of MY office!

I predict some serious mischief in the lame duck session - what do these guys have to lose?

Great advice.

And, Mr. Speaker, remember that the for many, perhaps most of the nation's pressing problems, the best solution is not from Washington. Those Republican Governors and State Houses can better handle things.

Every time the House Republicans block something the Dems will cry, "they don't care about (fill in the blank)". That's when those Republicans in the States need to step up and say, "send it to us!"

Not just cut the size of government, but change its very nature.

Return to Constitutional rule!

We need to give them some definitive items to cut. e.g. Eliminate some cabinet departments? Can this be done?

What is so nuts to me is how the MSM is all in lock-step that this was simply the result of high unemployment. There is major disagreement over what just happened -- it doesn't bode well.
