We're rolling out a new section today: the College Feed. It's the third tab at top.

Mandolin Club, 1919

The College Feed was born out of our discovery that college towns send us disproportionate numbers of visitors, despite (or because of?) the stifling, knee-jerk Progressivism associated with such places. We'd like the College Feed to be a right-of-center refuge where students can ask questions, share stories, commiserate, and meet other non-conforming souls across campuses. And we hope the College Feed will give the larger Ricochet community a feel for what's going on at these institutions, and how these young conservative stalwarts approach politics.

Typical student

The College Feed will be anchored, initially, by a group of 17 College Contributors representing a dozen schools. It's open for anybody to read, and any Ricochet Member can comment on the College Feed posts. At first, College Memberships will be by invitation only, although we plan to open this up after we get the College Feed established and various features (e.g., institution badging) implemented.

So, please check it out and make our College Contributors and Members feel welcome!

What a good idea. Might the better College Feed posts leak into the Main?

As a grad of Jesuit hi school and college 5 decades ago, and with two children grads of Jesuit colleges, I'm interested in comments and discussion about such schools.

As a current college student I love this idea and am glad to see it arrive. I have interesting (disturbing) stories to share.

A fine idea! Being able to see each contributor's institution in the post headings would be of great interest -- especially to fellow students seeking kindred spirits, I imagine.

A forum like this could almost have been of great help to me when I was in school, except my move rightward didn't really begin until a few years later. In college (at Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, the inspiration for "P.C. U."), I stuck pretty successfully to hard science, and was only peripherally aware of the seeming madness going on in the humanities. (Marxism isn't dead and reviled? Postmodernists have concluded objective knowledge doesn't exist, and the scientific enterprise was "socially constructed" to oppress women and minorities?) Realizing that what I dismissed then as fringe lunacy has had pervasive, damaging effects on our broader culture beyond academia was part of what finally woke me up.  I hope our younger contributors with quicker learning curves than my own will be able to make a positive difference while they're still immersed in that world.

Everyone realizes of course that students will be sucked into the Ricochet vortex and neglect their studies, their laundry, their hygiene, their friends, forget what day of the week it is...and the sad state of American education will be all Ricochet's fault. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Great. Ricochet's collective IQ just lost a few points.

May I suggest this as the institutional badge for Hillsdale?

Not so fast.  That movie was shot on the U of O campus my freshman year.  We're not about to let go of it that easily.

Had there been a Ricochet College Feed back when I was in college, I wouldn't have cast my first vote ever for....

....Walter Mondale.

There.  I said it.

NO Rob!  I was musing the other day that my first ever vote was for John Anderson.  At least I didn't punch the card for Carter.

At least you voted.  I was too stoned or too drunk or too stoned and drunk to vote when I was in college.  Maybe it's a good thing I didn't vote.  I probably would have voted for Lyndon LaRouche.

You have at least one loyal reader at Cleveland State University, albeit a rather elderly one at age 52.
