Is Barney Frank in danger of losing his congressional seat? Stranger things have happened. Considered a safely Democratic district, the last Republican to represent Massachusetts' 4th CD was Pehr Holmes, who left office in 1947. So it's certainly been a while. But new polling information gives Republican challenger Sean Bielat a glimmer of hope. HotAir has the scoop:

The poll, conducted for the campaign by OnMessage, shows Frank falling below the 50% mark despite the D+14 composition of his constituency. Bielat comes within nine points, even though the poll shows that he still badly trails in name recognition.

The memo from the pollster explains that Bielat could shock the world on November 2nd: "The ballot is very encouraging and shows Bielat at 38%, Frank at 48% and 13% undecided."

"...shock the world..." indeed.

What if every Tea Partier sent Bielat one dollar.....

Frank's defeat is a consummation devoutly to be wished!

Now there's change I can believe in. Defeating Frank would finally deliver an overdue reckoning to a key actor in the Fannie/Freddie-fueled housing bubble that brought on our recent Great Recession.

I just made my modest donation to Mr. Bielat. It's going to be quite a credit card statement next month, but I don't want to sit in front of the television on November 2nd wishing that I did more.

I had seen his website and liked the candidate. I wasn't sure of his chances. Now I'm inclined to send a donation.

Bielat definitely seems promising, from the brief web video I watched earlier in the campaign.

I can think of few things that would restore my hope in America better than Barney Frank losing his job. However Democratic the district, Frank was an odious creep well before the Fannie/Freddie bubble popped. That anyone with any information about the man could ever vote for him is tough to fathom.

Bravo to Sean Bielat for giving voters a choice in a race that must have seemed nearly hopeless from the beginning!

My guess that Frank's defeat in a pipedream, but the polls in his district may shed some light on just how deep the mécontentement is in the land, generally.

Every time I hear his name, I can't help thinking it would make a better label for a hot dog than a congressman.

As much as I'd like to see him go, I think the only way anyone's going to get Barney's seat is in some completely different sense of the word.

The general enthusiasm here has gotten my attention--I'll investigate. I am really liking this phenomenon of out-of-state funding. Does anyone have statistics on this pre- and post-Tea? I think Dems have been doing it quite strategically over the years. It is comforting, no—exhilarating, to see what a profound effect throwing a few bad Republicans overboard can have. Regardless of the tactical advantages and disadvantages to be considered for individual races and offices, the ramifying effect across all races is very warming (as in the opposite of "chilling"). A few walks-off-the-plank really tightens up conservative discipline across the nation--even Democrats pay attention. Voters have power in uncertainty. Elites have power in predictability. Tip you voter’s hand and you are a mere pawn to be taken for granted and bargained for something else. That something else is almost always something you do not want. So…you're committed pro-life? Great, we'll toss you a tiny bone with a candidate who will make some (easily reversed) administrative policy change that is "pro-life." Then, given your absolutism on that, we'll make you swallow amnesty, "gay" hegemony, bad judges, etc.

Is it too early to start the "yes we can!" chant?
