RFD

From across the pond comes our newest podcast Radio Free Delingpole, starring the irrepressible James Delingpole. In this premiere episode, James welcomes fellow British commentator/provocateur Douglas Murray. They pull no punches as they fearlessly broadcast from "Eurabia" and discuss the hazards of publicly criticizing Islam, the U.S. Presidential race and their surprising picks for who should win the nomination, and wind up with a spirited debate the role of the west in the Middle East. It's a rollicking hour, but with those accents, everything just sounds so darn dignified. And yes, we plan to do these on a regular basis -- just as soon as we can get Delingpole a proper mic.

Give it a listen here:

I had for many years a cassette tape of a fellow who was the "go-to" guy on Sasquatch for an LA radio station.  (I may still have it, but I suspect I've lost it somewhere along the line, with multiple moves & whatnot.)

I enjoyed his views on how the Mt. Saint Helen explosion would impact the local Sasquatch population.  But I found it a bit tedious that his every observation on events focused on how they would play out in Sasquatch-land.

I get it.  I really do get it.  And if it comes down to pulling the lever (an anachronism) for Mitt Romney vs. Barack Obama, I will do so with less nose-holding than I had to do for John McCain (who I personally admire in general) or George W. Bush (for his second term; I kinda liked him in his first hitch, and still personally admire, but less so than I once did).

Wait ... that's not quite accurate.  I liked voting for W less the second time, but he was the clear choice, in my mind.  I think I liked him more the second time, having seen him speak three times.

But I didn't like his positions more.

So, anyway, I understand: You know much about Mitt Romney, and you're pro-Romney.

I'll be happy to use you as the "go-to" guy, James of England, if anyone I know has questions about Romney.

The thing is, I think we don't have questions about Romney.  He's B-okay.  Not A-okay, and not D-okay (but possibly C-okay).

I'm just one guy, but I find your boosterism of Mr. Romney a bit MEGO.

Respectfully yours,

Excellent podcast. I look forward to the sequel.

As nutty as Ron Paul is, particularly on foreign policy, he is gung-ho about dismantling federal authorities over the states and individual citizens. Sadly, he seems to be generally ignored in Congress today. Would he also be ignored as President? Is he politically savvy enough to gain Congressional votes for, and effectively advertise to citizens, significant cuts to federal budgets and powers?

In any case, Ron Paul comes off as a whiner. He is not likely to inspire great pressure on his fellow politicians to vote for severe cuts and restoration of Constitutional restraint.

I have deep reservations about Herman Cain as well. But he, too, is a candidate who seems to genuinely recognize and hate the hungry expansion of government.

I will accept any number of flaws to vote for the candidate who seems most able and willing to curtail the growth of government. Even if Romney is indeed interested in smaller government, he clearly represents a milder approach which America cannot afford.

Loved it! I have been missing Mark Steyn on the Ricochet podcasts so these guys will definitely fulfill my need for conservatism articulated in proper English.
