ObamaHalo

Shall we get a group effort going? Please list your favorite Barack Obama moment that involved narcissism. Unlike sociopaths (who can hide so well), the narcissist will declare himself in a number of obvious and unusual ways. Thus, we've got plenty of examples to choose from.

Give examples and interpretations of the president's narcissism. Opinions on narcissistic personality disorder (does the One have it?) are welcome, as are anecdotes of personal experience with narcissists.

There are many, but these quotes have always been my favorites:

“I think I could probably do every job on the campaign better than the people I’ll hire to do it."

“I think I’m a better speechwriter than my speechwriters. I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I’ll tell you right now that I’m gonna think I’m a better political director than my political director.”

"We are the ones we've been waiting for."  [Since he led the ones, I think it's reasonable to translate this into its real meaning:  "I am the one you've been waiting for."]

Sorry, Mr. President, there's only one man I'm waiting for--he's the central character in the NT. When he'll come, I don't know, but it's him, not you, I'm waiting for.

One other general thought:  Has there ever been a president who has used as many personal pronouns as Obama?  I heard [same source as Harry Reid*] that the pronoun "I" has asked for a stunt double because of all the abuse he's taken in Obama's speeches.

*Source:  the deep recesses of my troubled mind.

I don't know if it counts, but he used the word "my" 11 times in the speech regarding Bin Laden's demise.

The Beatles song I,Me,Mine comes to mind but how about his dog being named BO.  I cannot wait until Barfly hops in here.

It counts.  It's amazing that he keeps doing victory laps about an event he merely failed to prevent.

I tried to name one of my dogs TR, but we found it troublesome, what with the lack of a vowel ("Tra" or "Ter" just didn't work).  (Where was Sajak when this was going down?). So now he's known as Charlie.

How about Obama's suggestion that engaged couples ask friends and family to donate to his campaign in lieu of wedding gifts?

According to many, Valerie Jarrett is his main squeeze...er...adviser on all matters.

VJ: "“I think Barack knew that he had God-given talents that were extraordinary. He knows exactly how smart he is. … He knows how perceptive he is. He knows what a good reader of people he is. And he knows that he has the ability — the extraordinary, uncanny ability — to take a thousand different perspectives, digest them and make sense out of them, and I think that he has never really been challenged intellectually. … So what I sensed in him was not just a restless spirit but somebody with such extraordinary talents that had to be really taxed in order for him to be happy. … He’s been bored to death his whole life. He’s just too talented to do what ordinary people do.”

According to the Wiki on NPD - Diagnosis, it includes "4. Requires excessive admiration."

The back side of that is that he is reported to become quite angry at hearing that which he does not wish to hear.

Heck, I could come up with multiple examples from each of the 9 presenting behaviors listed at the Wiki link above.

Having addenda placed in the WhiteHouse.gov biographies of past Presidents to indicate how he had furthered their work. (Until a firestorm got them removed)

DocJay, actually the president is a very humble man who likes nothing better than giving credit to others but he has been forced to say these things by TOTUS, the teleprompter of the US.  It's not his fault. He is a victim of technology. Sarcasm off.

I'll also add a favorite. This picture always calls to mind a slight paraphrase of a Will Smith line in MIB: You know I make this look good!

Sending the Queen an Ipod with his speeches!

Eeyore, I am convinced he has NPD but of course from a distance.  Complicating drug usage(how do we know what he takes or doesn't) and lack of a formal psychiatric assessment are limiting factors.

Making fun of him is a great way to deal with the thin skinned man and  his sycophants.

Every Medal of Honor speech. There is no reason for him to talk about himself during those, but he just can't help himself.

Lots of photos of him posing to look cool. Also, the singing thing.

A person should be humbled on bent knee in front of such an individual or their surviving family.   The willingness to sacrifice yourself for comrades and country deserves the ultimate respect.

But how could any of these young men accomplish their heroic feats without everything the state does to make their sacrifices possible? They couldn't even get to Iraq or Afghanistan without government ships and aircrafts carrying them there. (/sarc)

This montage is pretty creepy, it is like it is just him and the camera, the people beside him don't matter. His smile never wavers and his hands hardly move at all either.

That may be the winner.  You've got to be majorly self-absorbed to think the Queen cares about your speeches on American politics.

Somehow I can't see this happening at the palace, except for the last line:

"Queen:  Philip, dear, would you like one of my earphones so that we can listen together to the speeches of that American chap?  I think he may be president or something else in the American government.  You know, the one who hugged me.  I like Ronnie so much better."
