This does not bode well for Obama 2012.

Andrew Johnson

For historical context, the last Republican to hold the NY-9 seat was Andrew Petersen, a Danish immigrant, in 1923, who served only one term. Out of the 157 years since the founding of the Republican Party, a Democrat has held this seat for approximately 144 of those years.

Fascinating.  Thanks for the research, Andrew.

Reckon this should put a stop to the talk of Paul Ryan's budget plan being an albatross around the necks of congressional Republicans.

When the Republicans lost NY-23, the meme from the media was that the GOP had alienated moderates, and that it was a sign of things to come. What will they say about tonight? Can't wait to hear the spin.

We all know what's going to happen here. NY-23 was because the GOP is too extreme, but NY-9 was strictly about local issues, yadda yadda yadda.

Why is it OK to violate the Code of Conduct whenever the target is Mike Murphy?

Not only did Turner win decisively in a heavily Democratic district, but he did it running as a conservative.

Another welcome blow to the conventional wisdom that Republicans can only win in blue states and districts by offering up moderates and RINOs.

As a Brooklynite and resident of a neighboring district, I find this miraculous and glorious.

It will be interesting, but what is more fascinating is that it really doesn't matter.  We are witnessing before our eyes the very self-destruction of the MSM.  Folks are on to their game more and more and this is making their relevance shrink to quasi non-existence.  At this point, they are only preaching to the choir. A very loud choir yes, but the noise is far disproportionate to their actual numbers.

What's also amazing is the turn of the Jewish vote.  I hope Peter, Rob & James can analyze this trend in their next podcast.  The Israeli situation is very dangerous right now and I can't imagine any Jewish voter looking to Obama (or the left) for help.  If this can carry into '12, Florida will be a lost cause to Obama.

Everything about the Democrats now stands repudiated by the voters:  its leadership, it's program, and most importantly its ideology.  If trends continue, the Democratic party will be reduced to a rump in the next election.  Nevertheless, I'm not sanguine about the prospects for the future of our republic.  Even with a super-majority I don't think the Republicans will have the vision or the desire to dismantle the administrative super-state.  Professional politicians of whatever stripe are all members of the same ruling elite.  It will be up to the Tea Party when the time comes to insist that radical measures to reduce federal power be pushed through via legislation.  The battle has only begun.

I'm entertained by the media saying even through last afternoon how the race was "Too close to call". I guess that phrase now means, our polling doesn't look how we'd like. Hopefully the presidential race is that close in the same direction.
