They had a signed separation agreement in 1987. That adds a wrinkle to the idea that he was "cheating" in 1999. At the very least, it was an incredibly complicated relationship, and it should be virtually unthinkable to take sides at this late date.

Trained seals? Really? Americans who cheered when Gingrich said that he was tired of the media covering for Obama by attacking Republicans,...are ...seals? You're better than that. That's the kind of sneer I would expect from MSNBC,...not from someone on our side.
Let me say this succinctly: The people who fundamentally think that the Marianne Gingrich thing is legitimate journalism or the response was inauthentic are the same people who are mystified by the success of Fox News and fundamentally mischaracterize and underestimate the fundamentals of the American character. And quite frankly I would expect better from this audience.
There. Newt has judged you and found your comments wanting.
There is legitimate journalism to be had here though. Who sponsored this, who arranged this, who leaked this, and why is it asked in a debate? A bitter ex-wife, not interesting but of course this garbage does stick sometimes. But Newtron made lemonade for sure from the news and mincemeat from King.

I share Newt's hatred of the news media and I enjoyed his ability to take them down a peg.... the first fifteen times I saw it. But now it's just schtick, and a play for easy applause. And I really don't think it plays that well outside true believers.
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.....Repent sinner!!!!

Uh, no. I want to beat Barack Obama this year, and I am very disturbed that the overemphasis on manufactured highlight reel moments in these increasingly monotonous debates is about to lead us into a terrible mistake.

Well, that brings us back to an old debate about what people want to hear, and how large our base is, etc., and there's no sense in rehashing that. But thank you for reconsidering the tone.
There is nothing more important than beating Obama. If Mitt cannot handle some Newt shouting in regards to popularity I would question his resolve to deal with a billion dollars worth of slime headed his way. Either this whole process makes your man better or finds him wanting, either way it's good.

Some of us feel the same way about the overemphasis on manufactured candidates.
I for one enjoyed the clip and it's what I love about Newt. Does it mean he can govern? Not by itself but it is a trait I want in a Republican president.
He was right to dismiss King's attempt to remain above the fray. Not so much with his seeming description of his ex-wife as, what's the term we use here? Oh yeah, baggage.
Still, he handled a tough spot pretty darn well. I do wish that Mitt had a bit more Newt in him.Though I'm sure I'd constantly have to read all about how "flappable" and "irritable" Mitt is....
For as much as all this has a Game Show look and feel to it Newt here seems to have made a reasonable point. There is an old song, Mud Be Flung Tonite, if anyone remembers it. Newt seems to be on the I am not going to take this anymore platform, therefore the applause.
This is clearly a battle where respect does not apply. And the Media complain about urination on dead Taliban when they participate in kind.
Newt about now is perfoming his version of Custers Last Stand, that is clear.
I had to watch it over and over again. It is great and I love it. I think it demonstrates that Newt has the spine that I want a President to have.
It is also nice to see King's attempt to back-pedal when he met resistance and be reminded about how unwilling to be accountable the left are and how much they believe they can always have it both ways.
It may seem a small thing, but I apprieciated the way Newt opened. He takes language seriously, which is so important.
"Would you like to take some time to respond to that?"
"No. But I will."
That alone got tremendous applause.
To elaborate a bit. A lot of people would say Yes, and then respond. But saying "Yes" subtly legitimizes the question, and in a sense it is a lie. No one wants to have to respond to these kind of things because there really is no good response.
Also by saying "Yes" it implies that he "likes" to talk about this issue, the journalist is off the hook, thus opening up follow-up questions.
By saying "No", it acknowledges that he is forced to respond, and underscores the unfairness of the situation.
I see politicians tripping over themselves unnecessarily because they don't respect language and unwittingly walk into subtle rhetorical traps.

Didn't trained seals kill OBL. Love the clip. This was not about Newt but about the commie slime in the media getting some blow back.
