Rufus Wainwright's rendition is among my favorites:

Stuart, I'm with you.  I've been following Loudon Wainwright ever since his first album, in 1971.

Many years ago, I had a job that kept me traveling all over the western United States and Canada, from town to small town.  I never stayed in one place for more than a few days and as a young man, I was always hungry for female companionship.

Late one night, I was driving across the badlands of North Dakota.  It was 30 degrees below zero and I hadn't seen a light in hours.  My car radio could only catch one signal, a station from Alberta, and on came a song that captured my longing exactly; Loudon Wainwright's Motel Blues.

By the way, Rufus isn't Loudon's only talented progeny.  Here is Martha Wainwright's lovely rendition of Bye, Bye Blackbird.

Thanks. I don't think I had ever heard any version of "My Funny Valentine".

Diane, anyone who can make judicious use of Rufus Wainwright on Valentine's Day deserves the capital E in the title Editor. This Ricocheter salutes you!

I tweaked Diane a bit in Member Feed. Miles Davis's version is a sentimental favorite of us old people.

Our local jazz station included an unusual Blossom Dearie number in today's Valentine's Day program: To Keep My Love Alive
