My Conversation With Peter Robinson

While in California last week, I was lucky enough to get nearly an hour of Peter Robinson's time (via Skype) for an interview for my podcast (The RJ Moeller Show). Peter was as gracious as he was interesting to chat with. I know the Ricochet family will enjoy any extra PR they can get in their life, so here you go:
What a really cool, really nice man!

Who made the artwork? A very nice likeness, I'd say.
The hands are a characteristic gesture, I'll admit, but when you freeze them in time like that, I pick up the vibe of a TV faith healer. It makes me wonder, if only Peter's life had taken a slightly different turn--who knows how he would have turned out? "Place your hand next to mine on the television screen, and belieeeeeeeeve. . . ."

RJ and Peter: I'm nodding along in agreement here on Peter's point about his family's discussions around the dinner table about FDR.
Just to add my voice to that--I grew up in a largely apolitical household. My parents were both culturally conservative (church going folk, not intellectual, hard working, law abiding, little-league coaching--the kind America is built on), but we never talked politics around the dinner table whatsoever. It was only as I got older and started to voice my opinion that they ever had a outrightly political conversation with me.
But I remember distinctly both my father and my uncle saying to me: You remind me of Dad (that is, their father, my grandfather) in my early opinion that FDR had failed to alleviate the Depression and that it was WWII that finally did it (and I'm all for FDR's hawkishness there).
Evidently, my grandfather had railed at the time against FDR and Social Security and taught his children that it wouldn't be there for their generation. In 2011, that looks almost prophetic.

Found it on another site simply by Googling Peter's name. Pretty sweet, huh?
Re: My Conversation With Peter Robinson
I apologize for the implication, which is quite inaccurate, but I can't see those hands in the illo without thinking of Emperor Palpatine using blue lightning bolts to subdue Luke Skywalker.

A day can't be called a "good" one until I've come up against an Emperor Palpatine reference. Very funny!

The illustrator is Zach Franzen of Greenville, SC.
Here's his blog. He is represented by The Silver Agency.
And here's his blog post about that illustration: http://atozach.com/2010/12/11/fan-art/

Actually I think this is the scene where Master Yoda raises Luke Skywalker's X-Fighter out of the swamp on Planet Whateveryoucallit. Right after that, the X-Fighter sinks in the water and Luke announces that he's staying to fight the Death Star and Lord Vader from the confines of the Chair of the Rebel budget committee.
Bitter? Nooooo. I'm not bitter.

I felt a great disturbance in the force. As if trillions of dollars suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I've been trying to think of how to work Count Dooku into this conversation, but I got nothing.

Have you noticed that when Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi speak to Obama, they wave their hands across, and whisper quietly, at which point Obama repeats whatever they tell him?
I'm told it's an old trick, but it only works on weak minds.
