I apologize to Ricochet contributors and readers for not getting through the many points that were raised in the conversation Claire Berlinski began last week regarding my Encounter "Broadside" on the sharia agenda in America. Unfortunately, the conversation arose in a week that a death in our extended family took me out of action for a couple of days, and the crush of deadlines that got moved to the later part of the week did the rest. I am going to take the liberty of resuming the conversation Tuesday by posting some further reactions. I appreciate everyone's indulgence.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I had hoped to participate last week myself, but work intervened. The Broadside was very informative, as was the evidential side reading. Having first encountered organized Islam as a recruiting target briefly in the late 70's, I think the work could be much expanded to good effect. My encounter left me with the impression of a hybrid organization, crossing a church-going meme with a very strong organized crime sensibility. They were very anti-semitic and used that as a basis to try and find common ground with potential recruits. My xeroxed copy of the Protocols of Zion came from them, and that was when I first read the Koran.

Different Islamic factions fought each other over territory as well as doctrine, assassination was an important part of their play book, and conducted black market operations such as truck hijacking and cigarette smuggling to help fund their activities. Obviously, I did not pursue that "opportunity". By the early 90s the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt was looking to take things to the next level and find ways to use these factions.

Like England, by the time we are resisting Sharia, we are way behind.
