More about the IHH and the Mavi Marmara
My piece about them is up at the Weekly Standard.
Its rise to international prominence represents a regional tactical development on the order of the PLO’s pioneering and inventive use of terrorism. To call them terrorists is to muddy the water; if you focus on looking for evidence of this you might fail to recognize what’s truly worrying about them. Although clearly they are Islamists, their chief weapon is not terror, but blackmail. They are indeed a charity, but their charitable works serve as financial and moral cover for a political goal, and that goal is repeatedly to force Israel into a hideous checkmate wherein it must choose between endangering itself and killing the IHH’s human shields.

Re: More about the IHH and the Mavi Marmara
Thanks for your yeoman work on this topic. Based on your podcast comments, I watched two of the Neturei Rabbi segments. Wow. I found his response that Israel be dismantled and indivdual Jews apologize profusely to all groups of Arabs, Muslims, etc. so bizarre as to suspend logic. This could be repackaged into one of "The Onion" satire news videos. Thanks again.

Color me shocked. No, really, that's an official Crayola color.
Golly gee, the guy tied by the press to a bunch of criticisms of the crew in power is going to be fired. Whoda thunk? I just remember when Rahm was supposed to be the guy standing up to Congress and smacking them around. Which he did occasionally, to not much effect.
I'll miss you, Rahm. In the shower. When nobody's there to prod me

Re: More about the IHH and the Mavi Marmara
It baffles me that all this information is easily accessible yet so many people won't even look at it. Are people that wedded to their views that they will ignore or deny factual evidence that goes against them? Or is it laziness or cowardice? Too much work or too embarrassing to admit one might be wrong?
Re: More about the IHH and the Mavi Marmara
I'm not just baffled, I'm despairing.
Re: More about the IHH and the Mavi Marmara
Claire, two (main) questions:
1) Have there been any encouraging or, God forbid, troubling responses to your videos/commentary/reporting on this stuff? Also, did the IHH follow up with you about what you planned to do with the videos? Did they care?
2) (And this may just be a stay-at-home-mom-type question, but...) Do you worry that the wrong people might, like, get mad at you and, like, do something .... mean? Does that ever cross your mind, o fearless journalist?
