Forgive my pessimism, but I'm starting to think the NCAA basketball tournament is just a front organization for the "Occupy" movement, Planned Parenthood, green jobs, and the MSM. In other words, it's working unabashedly for an Obama victory.

Once again, the Prez is looking fine in the 2nd Annual Ricochet NCAA Basketball Bracket Pool standings. (In case you don't remember, he spent a fair amount of time ahead in last year's pool, and we had serious discussions about how we might go about getting a Ricochet T-shirt into the White House. Honorably, of course.) Thank goodness, though, our own Mollie Hemingway holds the lead, and with all of her big picks still alive, she can definitively dash the president's hopes by the end of next weekend. Maybe.

There are some other favorable combinations involving some of our other members, and we do expect you to step up. Make us proud.

The games of March 15 were all about 15 seeds shocking 2 seeds. The Nobodies of Norfolk St. downed Mighty Missouri, and then Lowly Lehigh shocked formerly Dominant Duke. Talk about a bracket buster, baby!

Please, if you are mathematically inclined, look over the numbers and rankings in our pool, and tell me all the different ways we can push POTUS on down the list.

Let the prez win. He'll need something positive to put on his CV next January. Vacations, golf, hoop, beer summits... he can organize the community rec center.

Sort it by potential max, and the Prez falls to 31st place.    The first round offers a lot of safer picks, but the later rounds are where you make hay.  He's already lost one of his Final Four, where the 30 people ahead of him have all of theirs alive.

Precisely, Sam.  Obama cannot win in 2012.  All these gloomy guses would benefit from a more mathematically sound assessment (with a cheerleader & a Tom Lehrer song!):

Obama probably wins if he gets the final right. Half a dozen of our finest have the same final & could still beat him, but they all trail.

If it's any other outcome in the championship game, I can't see how he wins.

Rocking last place doesn't look good on the old resume.

Obama is doing great in our neighborhood pool too.  But he lost one of his final four so we will (I hope) catch him in the end.  Our pool gives points based on the seed of the winning team times the square of the round so the later rounds can really add points if you picked a 4 or 5 to go far...and they do.

Get your terminology right, Fred; You're winning from behind!

I have Vanderbilt going to the final 4.  I don't know if I trust kids who score better than 1200 on their SATs to win basketball games.

I think we call that potential energy in the physics world.  In all my past March Madness ventures I've never been ever to turn it into actual energy.  Hey, I'm a conservative, I'm a pessimist.

Ah, but our main objective is not to do well, it's to tear down the people in front of us and hurl them off the ladder.  A lot of people technically in front of you now have nowhere to go in later rounds, including the Prez.

I am, however, the only one who picked Florida St to win it all.  So if I'm wrong about everything else and picked the correct final winner...
