Moderate Muslim Brotherhood Watch
Well, lookie here--it's the moderate Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood's moderate Kamal al-Halbavi, expressing his unalloyed moderation for that famously moderate Muslim, Mahmoud Moderate Ahmadinejad:
"He is the bravest man in the Muslim world and we (in Egypt) need innocent, honest and brave leaders like him."
It's weird how items like this always get reported in Fars, but not the New York Times, isn't it?
Halbavi, moreover,
expressed hope that Egypt would have “a good government, like the Iranian government, and a good president like Mr. Ahmadinejad, who is very brave.”
When asked about the Muslim Brotherhood’s opinion of Ayatollah Khamenei’s statements on Egypt’s developments, Halbavi said, “Many thanks for Imam Khamenei and all who support the revolution in Egypt.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said in Tehran’s Friday prayers last week that the recent developments in North Africa are the result of “Islamic awakening, which followed the great Islamic Revolution of the Iranian nation.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution made reference to Egyptians’ fight for “dignity and honor” and noted that Mubarak’s biggest crime was turning Egypt into an instrument in the hands of the United States.
The Muslim Brotherhood member added that he wants his country to develop in all spheres “like Iran, achieving more technological and scientific advances and becoming a regional power.”
Now, I'm moderately confused, because it wasn't that long ago that the moderate Muslim Brotherhood's spokesman was "sharply" denying his organization's enthusiasm for all things Iranian:
A prominent member of Egypt’s officially-banned Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Council has “sharply” denied his organization wants an Iranian-style administration, after anti-government demonstrations forced long-time President Hosni Mubarak to step down following 18-days of protests. ...
“Absolutely wrong; that is (a) false allegation. This is not true. We are calling for a civil state, moderate state, (and) a democratic state, equality, prosperity, justice for all and freedom for all citizens. All are equal. Egypt is not Iran. Egypt can build its own model of democracy according to its culture and Islamic preference.”
You know, I just don't know who to trust here. I'm sure it will all work out okay, though. It's probably all just a moderate misunderstanding.

Oh, Claire: He couldn't possibly have said those things because he's a Sunni and the Iranians are Shiite, so there must be a mistake, and that's why the NYT hasn't reported it.

A wonderful sideshow to this is the Medea Benjamin Moral Acrobatic Revue. Her statements of rage about the treatment of the Muslim Bortherhood and their potentially wise and kind governance of Egypt has been entertaining. why do i get the feeling that iran is outsmarting the US in playing 3 dimensional chess called the middle east?
obama and his party machine seems interested and less timid in going after the tea partiers and scott walker.
