The fallout from Romney's interview with Bret Baier of Fox News this past Tuesday continues.  Now making the rounds:

Wow. The end, with "Jon Huntsman." Not what I was expecting. Pretty good ad.

I had the exact same reaction, Mama Toad. Hilarious.

Now, that is effective.

I'm with Mama Toad... I expected nothing like "Jon Huntsman."

It's not a big deal that all of Romney's changes have seemed, well, ... convenient. Do you think he's ever changed his mind when it wasn't convenient?

I don't.

I don't hold the switch on abortion against him. Look at how much younger he was when he offered that pro-abortion statement. We all change our minds on serious issues from time to time. The problem is that at least some of his changes seem more motivated by politics than belief.

Do you remember the first Republican primary debate? It wasn't that long ago. And he was still responding to criticism of Romneycare back then by pointing out that it was a state issue — as if that idiotic, big-government policy was alright because he only screwed his own constituents and not all of America.

Romney is a fraud. The sad thing is the other candidates might be as well.

Right now, I have no idea who I would vote for.

I'll agree that it isn't unusual for someone to change positions on abortion or many other things. What is so pathetic is that Romney isn't capable of explaining the switch. To tell Bret "your wrong" is just not sufficient. It makes me feel like Romney thinks of everyone as an idiot for questioning the change. It's that he can't just come out and explain his personal growth process that makes me skeptical that the change was simply political.

Honest people change their minds when they learn something new, not when they have an advantage to gain.

The last time we had this kind of video trail, didn't we label the candidate "flip-flopper" and hang it around his neck until the end?

Someone will eventually do one of those "face morph" things, showing Romney's face melting into John Kerry's face.  If you squint hard enough, you'll start to see it...

Huntsman was interviewed in the "Coffee and Markets" podcast. (I highly recommend C&M.) It was enough for me to reconsider Huntsman, who came across as smartly conservative. I'm looking forward to his one-on-one debate with Newt.

This is a preview of what we will see from Team Obama if Romney wins the nomination.  Of course, Gingrich will be similarly savaged (sorry) on his past positions and more; the difference?  Newt will know how to respond.

This is the key point. No matter how excellent Ramesh Ponnuru thinks Mitt Romney is, he will crumble like a sugar cookie if he can't even handle Bret Baier.

I am very interested to see the Hunstman/Gingrich debate.

It is obvious this is an important election.  The body blows have ended early and the knife wounds and blood letting are now in play.

One can see why Daniels, Ryan and others that should have run didn't.

First of all, I am very glad to see your posts today! And second of all, that Star Trek connection you have made is killing me. I'm afraid I will never be able to get the image out of my mind.

I'll bet Newt put Huntsman up to it.  A cabinet post in the making, I'd say.

Hey, you've got to admit it makes a good rumor. Someone will run with it.  Probably Politico. But you heard it here first, Ricochetians. [:-)

I'm unconvinced.

If Barry raises that spectre Mitt will dump Gitmo and Libya in his lap. The know-nothing indies will see an unprincipled, self-serving, stalemate.

When Barry (through surrogates, of course) raises Newt's serial infidelity though...how does Newt respond?

Does he say, "Trust me, we're not married?"

We aren't Dems, Doc. This stuff matters.
