Drudge reports that Michelle Obama appears to have violated Illinois state law by exhorting voters to "keep her husband's agenda going" inside of a polling place. Illinois state law -- Sec. 17-29 (a) states:

No judge of election, pollwatcher, or other person shall, at any primary or election, do any electioneering or soliciting of votes or engage in any political discussion within any polling place, within 100 feet of any polling place.

An Illinois elections official has cited ignorance as the reason the First Lady, a graduate of Harvard Law School, may have broken the law:

"You kind of have to drop the standard for the first lady, right?" the official explained late Thursday. "I mean, she's pretty well liked and probably doesn't know what she's doing."

While pleading ignorance of the law wouldn't exculpate a normal citizen, it seems that in Obama's America, those in the ruling class are above the law.

Diane, Diane, Diane.... They are not above the law. They are the law.

And there's an Ivy League comment in there, too, but that I am keeping to myself!

Suspended sentence with probation?  Conditional on no longer associating with scofflaws and reprobates?

Or will they just find a nice Senate seat for the judge?

True, but she's also "pretty well liked." Just imagine a society where the law applied to the pretty well liked. Chilling.

I made sure to include that she's a graduate of Harvard Law just for you, EJ. :)

She was ignorant of the law? Each polling place has signs before its entrance warning against electioneering. Perhaps one doesn't have to pass reading comprehension to get into Harvard. (Sorry...Was that too anti-elitist?)

Come on guys, she should be able to campaign for Barack at the polling place, it's for the good of the country. If the law prevents someone from doing something they feel they should be able to do, they don't have to follow it! Right?

Yeah, and I heard the Black Panthers didn't know what they were doing either.

Dear Ed, I have checked the CoC and can't see how a juxtaposition of Mrs Obama and "pride" - referencing her famous comment- is in breach?I'm all for civility-I posted in similar terms on Whoopi last night-but if one puts oneself out there a little gentle sarcasm is hardly a "personal attack".Pardon my Irish wit!

Ha! No such problem for me. My extremely affable wife might have to start watching for the highway patrol though.

Electioneering is whatever the judge and pollwatchers will let you get away with. It's Cook County, figure it out.

Ugh...you're totally using the wrong references. That clip wasn't even funny. You've all betrayed the lawl.

I'm no fan of Mrs O, but aren't we blowing things out of proportion? It's like saying that Rush wants America to fail.

I'm not saying she didn't do wrong, but was it just one sentence? Aren't we taking one sentence/phrase/paragraph out of context and making a mountain out of it. It's not like she stood and made a speech or spoke to a series of people telling them to vote for her husband. I really don't see this as campaigning.

It bugs me when the left does this but it bugs me more when the right does it because we should know better.

Let's consider a scenario in which a First Lady undeniably and grossly did break criminal law. Isn't there a law that says a President cannot be tried on criminal charges while he remains in office? If there is such a law, does such protection also apply to the First Lady? Should it? Let's pretend pardons aren't the norm, so she would actually be punished when the President is through with his term.

Good God, these are the types of folks just made for giving Election Judges headaches.

This is either one more example of the arrogance of Ivy Leaguers or an honest mistake. I think it’s the latter.
