Michael Totten, Iraq, and the Ricochet Book Club: Shall We Set a Date?
Don't forget, Ricochet, that Michael Totten has promised to join us to discuss his new book, In the Wake of the Surge. I'm on Chapter Four. Like everything Michael writes, it's gripping--which is unfortunate, because I have a lot of other work I should be doing.
Now, a book club discussion is a lot more fun if everyone has read the book. It's a lot more fun for the author, too. So I want to give you all a chance to read it before we convene. (And I want to give myself a chance to finish it, too.)
When would you like to schedule our chat with him? Shall we do it not this coming weekend, but the next? Would that be enough time for everyone who wants to participate to read the book?

Can we wait until they release the Kindle version?

Not even pausing to ask 'how high?', I jumped right over to Amazon to see if there was a Kindle version. (There is.)
Amazon has a section "Suggested Tags From Similar Products". These suggested tags are (as of the time of this comment):
I suspect this might be because the "Item... [Other] Customers Buy After Viewing This Item" is Dick Cheney's new book.
And so we see the value of the folksonomy.

Thats so weird. When I checked it out it said something like "if you would like to tell the publisher that you want a Kindle version....."

Re: Michael Totten, Iraq, and the Ricochet Book Club: Shall We Set a Date?
That just proved rather expensive..... Ended up buying Totten's book, Christopher Hitchen's Arguably, Mark Steyn's After America and Penn Jillette's God, No!

I would like to join in but A) I would need more time to acquire & read and B) I need special permission to set aside the book I picked up yesterday - There Is No Alternative: Why Margaret Thatcher Matters.
(Not joshing... actually picked it up yesterday. Paid full price. You're welcome.)

I'm with Casey's "A." And I'd like to finish The Well of Lost Plots first.

For some reason the kindle edition isn't available from the book's page on Amazon. You have to click through to the kindle store and search for it. Better sort that out!

Yes,It is hidden there, behind the curtain but it is not a real e-book, the chapters are not hyperlinked. No big thing, I guess.

I recently broke down and joined Twitter - I have been pleasantly surprised how useful/informative it is (not to mention Jonah's hilarity). Michael Totten has very sober and thoughtful Twitter posts.

I'd like to join in. I've just downloaded the Kindle edition, so would welcome as much time as possible.

Re: Michael Totten, Iraq, and the Ricochet Book Club: Shall We Set a Date?
I'm available any time. There's a lot of overlap between Mr. Totten's time in Iraq and my own, so I look forward with great expectation to this discussion.

I have acquired the Kindle version (much inferior to the real thing, but much faster) and will be ready not later than Friday next.
