Having never missed an opportunity to exploit a man down on his luck, Michael Moore has come to the "aid" of the "moderate" Muslims in NYC and their controversial plans to build a Muslim Community Center/Mosque at Ground Zero. On 9/11 this year, he announced on his blog:

I am opposed to the building of the "mosque" two blocks from Ground Zero.

I want it built on Ground Zero.

Why? Because I believe in an America that protects those who are the victims of hate and prejudice. I believe in an America that says you have the right to worship whatever God you have, wherever you want to worship. And I believe in an America that says to the world that we are a loving and generous people and if a bunch of murderers steal your religion from you and use it as their excuse to kill 3,000 souls, then I want to help you get your religion back. And I want to put it at the spot where it was stolen from you.

Though it need not be said, it still bears repeating: with friends like the aging fat-n-sassy Moore, who needs enemies? Since 9/11/2010, Moore has raised over $50,000 for the Ground Zero Mosque.

Yesterday, Family Security Matters reported:

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore says he has raised over $50,000 for the construction of a mosque and Muslim community center near Ground Zero.

Moore made an appeal to his supporters on the ninth anniversary of 9/11 for donations to the construction project, pledging to match contributions up to $10,000.

Less than 48 hours later, five times that amount had poured into the contribution coffers as hundreds of people from around the country heeded Moore’s call.

As the donations poured in for Moore's "Muslim brothers and sisters," Moore wrote:

The people at the Islamic center are very appreciative that so many thousands have chosen to come forward in support of America and our First Amendment. And I, too, want to express my gratitude. (Anyone can contribute by clicking here.) Times are tough economically, and supporting our Muslim brothers and sisters is not a popular thing to do right now. I am truly touched by your generosity -- and people around the world will know that you, too, represent an America they rarely get to see.

As P. T. Barnum once observed, there's a sucker born every minute. And according to Moore, not a few of these suckers are ponying up for his self-aggrandizing fiasco. He quotes them:

Michael,
Here's my donation. I'm a Presbyterian from Kalamazoo who has a friend who was on the plane that crashed near Pittsburgh (on 9/11).
Carol Smith

....

From Rabbi Yonassan Gershom:
I am Jewish, and it is now the Jewish High Holy Day season, when it is traditional to give extra charity. I am donating $18 on behalf of my wife Caryl and I, as a gesture of fellowship and solidarity. (The number 18 in Jewish numerology is the number for life -- Hebrew letters chet (8) + yod (10) -- and it is traditional to give in multiples of 18.) Please, Imam Rauf, do NOT sell out to those who want you to move the Center -- that would be a victory for bigots, heaven forbid. Build it where it is planned, in peace, pride, and freedom! Peace-salaam-shalom!

...

I wish I could have donated more, but I'm unemployed and money is really tight.
Thanks for matching this, Mr. Moore.
Eric Bauman

With his star fading in the artificial kleg-light firmament of the Left, there is no extreme that Michael will not go to in an effort to keep his own melted candle lit.

I must say I have always felt that Michael Moore was a true believer in everything he says and does. I do not see him as motivated by personal gain, though he certainly doesn't mind the payout!

He does and says all of the sensational, cheap, dishonest, intellectually lazy things he does because he actually thinks that he is doing the right thing by enlightening the people and getting rich off of it. All the lying, smearing, unabashed hate-mongering and making a fool out of himself in the process is for the sake of the little guy, so why shouldn't he make so much money that $25,000 in matched donations is chump change?

My impression is that on a certain level, he feels like something of a martyr for the cause whenever he's criticized by the Right, adding to his sense of self-importance and to the notion that without a doubt, because his gut and his union background tell him so, he is always, always, always right, no matter what those stinking fascists (or common sense) have to say about it.

Hmmm, I wonder.... where does he stand on "school prayer[?]" This controversy has been going on for decades and yet..... not a peep.

Moore displays - in his bloated and bulging sausage casing of a body - all the worst enigmas and most hostile, anti-social features of modern Statism/collectivism. He never fails to praise the most oppressive and angry enemies of America. It made him rich at one time, and that is our shame, since so many of our fellow citizens supported him. Oliver Stone also fits into this category.

The good news is his latest film Capitalism; A Love Story was a mega flop. He financed much of it himself, so he's seriously out-of-pocket and itching for a new fight.

Having successfully surfed on Bush Derangement Syndrome for so many years, he thought he was actually a talented artist. Now he's an angry and disaffected has-been looking for another gig. A typical 'progressive'.

Michael Moore raises $50,000.00 of, mostly, other people's money for the GZM. It's either a cheap way to maintain his relevance or a bid for Rahm Emanuel's job. Could be both.

I say with a certain measure of pride that I have never seen Michael Moore finish a sentence. Such are the blessings of the remote.

Why is it that liberals/leftists seem unable to talk about Islamic terror/GZM without resorting to the same tired claim that other acts of terrorism supposedly occur due to other religions, and that all we are doing is lumping all Muslims together? Moore's claim that Timothy McVeigh was Catholic and that we aren't holding his deed against all Catholics is a fallacy obvious to anybody who thinks before they speak. McVeigh did not blow up that federal building in order to advance the cause of Catholicism in the world, as the 9/11 terrorists did for the cause of Islam.
