It is FEC report time, with lots of spin in the air about what candidates have raised and spent.  I posted about this on TIME's Swampland blog yesterday.  They changed the title from above, but if accounting tricks interest you and you want to learn how to read between the lines in an FEC report, the post is here.

Thanks for the post. It looks like a good analysis of the parameters of campaign fiance. After the recent conversation about Michele Bachmann, I applaud your guts to get back into a Ricochet conversation while calling yourself (in your blog) a "Savvy Political Observor".

Very helpful analysis Mike. Thank you. If anyone wants to take a crack at it -- an image of concentric rings of campaign finance hell, with the various campaigns assigned to inner or outer rings depending on how much free cash they have would be instructive.

If the drawer gets too big or too cute, campaigns risk trouble with the Feds. Of course, no campaign ever admits to doing this.
Nice touch.

FEC Reports for Dummies by Mike Murphy.  Very enlightening.  But what exactly are your qualifications?

:)

Exactly.  It's just lying voodoo I make up to support the Liberal conspiracy to undermine the one and only source of Truth, Dr. Rush Limbaugh.

One of the best summaries I have read on how to review campaign disclosures.  I work with local campaign finance audits and I have realized how much can be "accidentally" left out of the reports until the next reporting period.
