Members-Only Debate Live Chat

Update: Access a live stream of the ABC debate here.
In the past, we have skipped coverage of weekend debates so that the Blue Yeti and editing staff can take a couple days of rest. However, ABC's Republican debate scheduled for 6pm PT/9pm ET tomorrow night will be the first debate since Newt's numbers have taken off in the polls, and we anticipate a potentially pivotal Mitt vs. Newt showdown. Therefore, we'll be hosting a Members' only live chat over on the Member Feed to cover the debate. We hope to have the pleasure of your company!

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
This debate will be known as the "Crushing of Romney."
Mitt doesn't have the chops to deal with Newt; Newt has been studying American politics for over 40 years. You don't get to be Speaker of the House without knowing your stuff, cold.

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
Just to add. While everyone is freaking out it's because Newt is basically inevitable.
Here's the link.
Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
Not that I disagree that Newt knows his stuff, but how then do you explain Nancy Pelosi?

Oh, she knows her stuff, raised by a jail-bird ward-heeler in Baltimore. It's just that it's nasty, mendacious Liberal Fascist stuff.

I've got on the boxing gloves; beware!

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
Newt v. Mitt? That's the equivalent of two mules fighting over a turnip. Or, more exactly two statists fighting over a toupee. As much as I'd like to be part of the chat I will be attending the 112th annual Christmas dance hosted by my fraternity's alumni association. Y'all have fun though...

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
ABC News aka Disney Corp is going to try to beat up Gingrich AND Romney while avoiding any serious discussions that might reflect badly on Barack Obama and his policies.
The game for the Obama-loving media is to keep the focus on the horse-race and the negative character snipes. Every discussion about temperament and executive competence makes it seem as though Obama actually possesses these qualities.
Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
Diane, for those of us who do not have functioning television sets, will there be an internet feed? And, if so, where do I find it?

Great chat! I came in late but noticed no technical hiccups. There may have been some Nyquil abuse, but nothing too serious.

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
The question is "Who won the debate?" In retrospect it seems obvious that the media's need was to defend their party and to advance its cause. After all is said and done it is obvious to me that the media completely failed in their purpose.

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
I suspect Jennifer Rubin will declare this a Romney victory but I think it was a bad night for him. That 10k offer was just awful and was made worse by Perry's pitch perfect response; he badly lost his exchange with Newt on the Palestine issue, and Newt talking about clarity at the risk of causing confusion for the timid was devastating; his comment about checking with Bibi before making a declaration on the Palestinian issue just wasn't presidential; and bringing up the gardasil issue seemed desperate.

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
In the end Newt clearly had the best go of it tonight. Romney did himself no favors. Perry didn't Perry it. Bachmann held onto her 5%. The moderators kept Paul from any area where he would sound like a loon. Santorum was there. The chat was awesome as usual.

Re: Members-Only Debate Live Chat
I think I missed most of the MSNBC-hosted debate, but of the ones I have seen, I must agree with other posters ABC has done a lousy job.
They obviously didn't even pretend to be objective. They had Neera Tanden, the president of the Center for American Progress, on their so-called panel, making comments about how Newt Gingrich somehow personifies "Republican anger" or some such. I mean, really, who do they think they're fooling?
They might as well have asked Hugo Chavez or Jose Manual Barroso to be a panelist.
