Mel Gibson Mystery Solved
I don't know a lot about other religions but as Catholics we believe in the real existence of the devil in a big way. If I was the devil, I would make it a priority to attack Mel Gibson until he disintegrated in such a way that he could no longer do the extremely effective work that he's been doing for the Church recently.
Why wouldn't I just attack the Pope you ask? Well, as the devil, I only have so many resources and the Pope is a pain in the neck to tempt due to his formation. It takes decades to do what I can do to Mel in just a few months. The Pope doesn't even have a wife that I can get him to beat, or appear to beat. Believe me, I'm working on him with my sexual scandal thing, but as I said, it's a process. However, now that my work with Mel is almost complete, you may see some more results from my peeps in that arena....

Re: Mel Gibson Mystery Solved
Rotten people can produce great art, and great people often produce rotten art. Life is not fair. Maybe rotten people just have fewer distractions.

I'd imagine it's advantageous for the devil to start in on somebody who was a bit imbalanced from the word "go."

Re: Mel Gibson Mystery Solved
Agreed, Joe.
Gibson has gone out of his way to make good-spirited films and avoid the trashy work most actors get sucked into. He regularly sought out didactic roles. He played them with humility. And he generally lived with charity, best I can tell.
I heard The Passion producer Steve McEveety discuss the film's production at St. Thomas University. Between the film itself and McEveety's stories, I'm convinced that Gibson considered the movie's creation a personal journey of faith-building and penance. He has always been troubled, but he's clearly a self-critical person who tries to serve God and others.
Some of Gibson's actions have been despicable, but I won't ignore anyone's good deeds when they perform bad ones. Unconditional love doesn't require turning a blind eye, but it does require endlessly renewed commitment to preserve our social bonds. It means confronting our friends yet never abandoning them.
Mel Gibson remains one of my favorite actors.

We'll see how this unfolds for him. I think he's got a lot more good left to give.

Re: Mel Gibson Mystery Solved
I'm thinking of selling "I'm better than Mel Gibson" buttons--wearing my troll disguise--to the same people who think it's clever to rhyme "Pope" with "dope" (obviously in a bad way, which is not how I believe.)

Poor loopdedoodle. My heart aches for people like him, brilliantly talented but, oh, so broken. I pray for peace for him.
