Meet a Wisconsin Public School Teacher
It is my pleasure to introduce the Ricochet community to Fred Levenhagen. Fred teaches the 8th grade in the Lake Country School District located in Hartland, Wisconsin. In his spare time, Fred also moonlights as a raving lunatic.
Nice.
I'm sure the parents in the Lake Country School District are thrilled to find out exactly what kind of "professional educator" their kids are learning from.
But maybe Fred has reason to be angry. After all, public school teachers work extremely hard for very little pay, or so we're told. So how much does Fred receive in compensation? You can find out for yourself here.
It turns out Fred makes $57,528 in base salary, and $37,409 in fringe benefits. Wait, what? Seriously? This guy is foaming at the mouth and marching on the capitol building, all the while being compensated $94,937 a year to teach 14 year old kids.
It is stories like this that have the voting public siding with Governor Walker. And for good reason.

Typical Democrat.
No big deal.
PS: I hear Mr. Levenhagen is being considered for the 10 PM weekday evening spot on MSNBC.
PPS: Is mental health covered under the Wisconsin teachers healthcare benefit plan? For Fred's sake, I hope so.
PPPS: In addition to being a public sector union member and a Democrat, I think it's safe to assume that Fred is also a NY Yankees fan. The evidence is overwhelming.

That's bang up work MB fan! Did you find that crazy man's picture and everything! That's impressive.
Hey, if I was making 95 grand a year, I might be upset that the bad republican man tried to take it all away too..... That's what they're doing up there right? Taking all the teacher's money and putting kids outside to fend for themselves or be cheese makers? I've been watching MSNBC so that's the impression I have.

The guy's name was put out their by my namesake on his radio show yesterday.
I just googled him, then found his compensation package in the public records.

Everything in my post is a public record. This guy made a fool of himself on national television. The only thing creepy is the look in Fred's eyes from that video.

"In his spare time, Fred also moonlights as a raving lunatic."
And he has lots of spare time. Presumably Mr. Levenhagen's compensation package is for the academic year. So he is off work for academic holidays, including the entire summer, and apparently whenever his union needs him to make some noise in Madison.

This man is an annoyance. Unfortunately, his stupid antic will probably make him the focus of a 10-minute hate, courtesy of calls and emails from people who have the luxury of anonymity, plus the thrill of hunting a lone animal in a pack.
I remember reading an article (alas, I can't find it via google) in which the art teacher who questioned Chris Christie during a town hall (somewhat disrespectfully, according to Christie) reported being harassed thanks to her youtube fame. Was she telling the truth? I myself can't say; however, none of what she reported experiencing sounded implausible.
If poor, deluded Fred ends up suffering anything--and he may in fact suffer no consequences--it will be the fault of the radio jockey who handed his name to the airwaves, not to Ricochet. But I do fear that the jockey's release of his name, place of work, and township will prove far more destructive to Fred than Fred's affront to civility--or his collection of taxpayer money--did to his state and his fellow citizens.
On this issue, check out the latest RadioDerb.

With earthquakes in NZ and revolution (or is it counter-revolution?) in Libya, this whole issue has been getting almost no coverage in Australia - apart from this, on our equivalent of NPR. I suspect "Aussie NPR" is about the only gig he could get, and no surprise the Tea Party rally of any other Walker support doesn't get a mention.

That's a decent salary, considering a house in Wisconsin is going for five bucks.

Given that he asserted that "Fox lies!", and he made this statement on Fox, is the assertion that "Fox lies!" itself a lie?

Fred is legally an adult, knows his face is familiar to many people, and knows his salary and benefits are public record. Fred went out of his way to engage in obnoxious and rude behavior to get his face on camera on national television, repeatedly. Fred wanted to be on national TV. Fred brought the attention on himself. He has no one to blame but himself.

If I were one of those sympathetic physicians handing out sick notes in Wisconsin, old Fred here might just be a legitimate diagnosis.

Re: Meet a Wisconsin Public School Teacher
MBF,
Thanks for the link to the Journal Sentinel's webpage. I have a friend who's wife works in education in Wisconsin and he has been sharing his family's point of view on the matter with me. I know my friend's circumstances and I know how hard his wife works. Let me just say that according to the JS database, she makes nowhere near what Fred makes in compensation and fringe benefits.
Given how good a teacher she is, and how crazy Fred is, this just further entrenches my belief that the unions need to go. My friend's wife should be making more, not less, than this loon.
