Sorry, saw Diane's entry and couldn't resist . . .

The New York Daily News is reporting that Michele Bachmann's New Hampshire campaign is pretty much kaput.

Staffers have been let go.

Then again, she's always been all about Iowa, right?

Can we say the same of her campaign -- kaput?

Or is there still a pulse?

So long as the contest of Romney vs (anbody but Romney) is still alive, she has a slight chance.

I wouldn't mind checking her for a pulse.

If I ever run into her, I'll ask her if she can introduce me to Newt, or Herman, when they come to Minnesota...if she's still on speaking terms with either of them.

The amazing thing is that someone who has never held executive office, has never chaired a committee in the House of Representatives, and does not have the support of a single colleague in that rather large body ever had the money to mount a campaign. Her success -- to the extent that she was successful -- was a reflection of the fact that there was initially no other conservative alternative to Mitt Romney. She was not especially plausible, then, and she became less so when Rick Perry entered the race. That she did not regain the support she lost at that time is largely due to the eloquence and dignity of Herman Cain. But, as his gaffes make clear, he, too, is an amateur who may not be up to the challenge. What I said last May is even more pertinent today: we are very likely to be running a managerial progressive -- and not a conservative -- against Barack Obama.

Now I look back at my title and wish I would've inserted "troop" before withdrawal.  As it stands, it looks like Obama is having Iraq withdrawal, which might look something like his nicotine withdrawal.

Also, Bachmann claims that all that New Hampshire stuff is a big media rumor.  I'm confused.

It's bad news and it's late on a Friday (East Coast, anyway). Right timing, politically.

As for Iraq, Diane (and all), what's the latest on Americans troops getting immunity from Iraqi laws if they end up in a "retraining" mission?

As of early this week, Reuters reported that the Iraqi govt still refused to put immunity for any American troops who stayed behind on the NATO retraining mission on the negotiating table.

She's a good woman and I wish her the best. She stayed in the race because she is a ferocious campaigner and tremendous with her efforts at raising funds. I get calls every day and e-mails as well from her campaign. Would that our other candidates, err...Herman are you there? do the same. Unfortunately her run has been over for about a month. I would love to see our bottom feeders begin to voluntarily drop out and offer their support to another candidate.

If this is legitimate, I would welcome a less crowded debate stage. It seemed like Bachmann was running interference for Mitt during the last debate, especially the exchage on healthcare, which I found a bit unsavory. If Romney is the guy we're stuck with, he'll need all the serious-minded, on-stage vetting he can take.

Even given her lack of experience, I liked her candidacy originally from a tactical point of view.  The MSM and the Obama campaign -- whoops, redundancy there -- would be hard pressed to do to her what they did to Hillary and then to Palin without seeming anti-woman.

Unfortunately, Michele did it to herself with that anti-vaccine drivel.  Whatever you think about Rick Perry's vaccine scheme, her position started to sound to me like the Jenny McCarthy babbling about a discredited link to autism.

There's still time for implosions. If any 2 of Cain, Perry, and Romney have serious scandals, she'd be the not-the-remaining-one-of-the-three. She'd have a decent shot at any one of those three one on one. She's very unlikely to be the nominee, even more unlikely to be POTUS, but more likely than Santorum, Newt, Huntsman, or Paul.

I don't think that this is entirely colored by my preference of Bachmann to the other b-listers (although I'm not really opposed to any of the non-Paul b-listers), but I felt that I should disclaim it.

She succeeded in doing three things: 1) killing Pawlenty, due to a unique set of circumstances, 2) making herself into a laughingstock nationally, and 3) jeopardizing her House seat.

She has lost a lot of respect and affection here in Minnesota.

Michele has been huge in the Tea Party movement and raised more money for GOP candidates in 2010 than any other House member. She may be isolated from the leadership in the House, but a lot of Tea Party Caucus members owe her. Her debate performance has not helped her, relying too much on gotchya, repetition, and principle and too little on an executive vision.

Her district is a moderate swing with a GOP lean, but St. Cloud State U (where King Banaian teaches) is at one end, and blue limo lib Stillwater at the other end.

She is always a prime target, and spending all her time in front of cameras instead of working on the Hill has not helped her.
