How can this be? Only “evil” Republicans would do such a thing. Perhaps MIT sent some folks over to explain basic math to the Massachusetts House Democrats in order to close their budget gap.

The 111-to-42 vote followed tougher measures to broadly eliminate collective bargaining rights for public employees in Ohio, Wisconsin, and other states. But unlike those efforts, the push in Massachusetts was led by Democrats who have traditionally stood with labor to oppose any reduction in workers’ rights.

I am expecting massive rallies with union thugs and lazy college students taking over the Massachusetts state senate building, with the media camped amid throngs of unclean, smelly miscreants. But I’m not holding my breath.

House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly last night to strip police officers, teachers, and other municipal employees of most of their rights to bargain over health care, saying the change would save millions of dollars for financially strapped cities and towns.

Wow. Even Scott Walker in Wisconsin exempted police (and firefighters) from their reform. My theory is the slow start this season by the Boston Red Sox triggered temporary insanity. Stay tuned--vote in the Massachusetts Senate upcoming.

I think the union members' takeover of the statehouse in Wisconsin made impressions on a lot of people, not just on conservatives.

Take it as a sign of hope for those previously considered to be beyond help.

Their right to bargain over health care? But I thought Mitt Romney had fixed that.

Ha!  Good one.  Maybe government workers get "super-expensive-awesome-no co-pay" health care that regular non-union citizens aren't allowed to have under Romney-care.

Someone tell me. Are the newspapers and television stations in Wisconsin giving this close coverage? I could imagine the Republicans in Wisconsin devising radio and television advertising that exploits this.

This is awesome.  Great job, Massachusetts legislature.  Funnily enough, by not destroying the unions outright you are saving them in the long run.  They should be grateful.
