Seal Beach Shooting

My beloved hometown of Seal Beach, CA made news today when what appears to be an estranged husband shot up his wife's work place, The Meritage Salon on Pacific Coast Highway, killing 8 victims.
Little is known about the motive but evidently the suspect, who was captured almost immediately, was involved in a custody dispute. Orange County doesn't get a lot of this kind of stuff and Seal Beach gets none. But I guess people can snap anywhere. That appears to be what happened here. Thanks to those who have asked if we're OK, as far as I can tell, no one in my family was in there. My prayers go out to all who were affected by this tragedy.

Thank heaven for California's stringent gun-control laws.  Otherwise one of those 8 victims might have accidentally shot someone.

No doubt much will be made of his gun ownership but it is arguable that this guy wouldn't have tried this in Texas, where many people without criminal records can carry concealed weapons.

These mass shootings are becoming more and more commonplace. What has become of us as a culture, that there are more and more of us willing to resort to not just murder, but mass murder, when we have a grievance over something?

Wasn't it not too many generations ago that murder, the most grave of all capital offenses, was relatively rare, and mass murder so rare so as to be all-but-unheard of?

What was it about this man who did the shooting that he willfully cast away any restraint that may have kept him in check?

Are we no longer a moral society?

I live close to Seal Beach, and I was just telling my Mom that if he gets the death penalty, i hope i am not her age when it is finally carried out.

The place is on PCH. It's open to the public. We live in an open society and although this is awful, it's sometimes amazing that this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. Custody issues are the most heated of all legal disputes.
