Our friend Rob Long is a man of many talents and many jobs. One of them is Martini Shot, a weekly audio essay on life in and around show business he does for KCRW, the NPR affiliate in Los Angeles. Although as you'll hear, this week's edition isn't about show business at all. As the title implies, it's about a shared experience, especially these days.

That was smooth Rob, if Lib's were horses, you'd be their whisperer.

Nice to know that is coming out of NPR boxes all over Blue America right about now.

When you start taking an interest in housekeeping, specifically, removing (and counting) that six months worth of spare change on the top of the dresser, you know you're there.

I've subscribed, can't wait to listen!

Why is iTunes so dense, I put in "Martini Shot" as a search term and it does NOT find the podcast, I use the link above to go to the KCRW's page and I could subscribe from there, and figure out that if you search "KCRW Martini Shot" then iTunes finds it.....

Rob, why only 10 episodes on iTunes, is that all there is?

Excellent. Simply excellent.

The full Martini Shot archive is here. There are many, many episodes (he's been doing it for several years now). I'll see if I can coax Rob into posting the titles of a few of his favorites.

Perfect shot for the times at hand. Really cool, especially since short shots are the hardest of all.

"...to pay my debt, which made me feel like a real man."

Rob, that's exactly the sort of appeal Republicans need to make to voters. We need to appeal to their sense of honor. Well done.

I'm reminded of the scene in My Fair Lady where Eliza remarks that Colonel Pickering always makes her feel like a lady. That's what Republicans must do. That's what Reagan did. We must give voters the benefit of the doubt and treat them as noble souls. It's not about self-esteem. It's about the human tendency to rise (or sink) to expectations.

We must assume Americans still want to be an honorable people. We must assume voters will agree to pay our debts not because we have to, but because we want to. Challenge people to be noble. If they fail to meet that challenge, at least they were offered a chance.

I understand a few podcasts ago Ben Shapiro and Rob scrapped a little bit as Ben projected a liberal agenda on to plots from old TV shows.  I agreed with Rob not for some intimate knowledge of the shows discussed but mostly due to a research lecture I once had to sit through where the English Ph.D. did her best to convince the audience of intentional and pervasive homosexual undertones contained in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.  I remained unconvinced though I assume her research remained fully-funded.  Projection is in the eye of the beholder and if you are looking for liberal propaganda in Hollywood, you are going to see supports in innocuous things given the search context.  However, listening to this short segment, Rob supports Ben's claim from this Heritage talk a few weeks ago.  Narrative vs. Argument.  Rob is second-to-none but I cannot believe that there are not other creative conservatives out there who but need an opportunity to shine (as in the Powerline Prize recently).  This martini shot is a perfect, short, succinct anecdote that shows how narrative matters.  We've all been there.

Excellent Martini Shot.  Very smooth transition from the narrative to the moral of the story.  I've been subscribed for awhile once I learned about it from Ricochet.com.

Beautiful.  Now if only a few left-wingers will actually listen.

I'm still on tenterhooks because the last Martini Shot before I went on holiday implied that Rob was unwell.   I need to catch up!

Love it.  No one can quite tell a story like Rob can.

A great life lesson spoken to. If this venue had been one of the Italian eating establishments of my youth... One would surely return at dawn with the cash.....

Knew better then, know better now...

That was excellent, and I agree with Aaron - that's the appeal the Republicans need to make.  I'd love to see America re-establish itself as a country who can "take it like a man."   A country that esteems honor.

Just subscribed in iTunes....I hope these older installments aren't a bunch of tripe.  I'll let you know....

Now AMEX will turn down your card even if you haven't missed or been late with a pymt in 12 years if your balance gets above your "normal usage" - whatever that is!

Seems that if your credit score drops below 700 they flag your account and slap you with a low credit limit.  I guess I'd cancel my card if I had any backbone...
