Folks at all levels will modify their behaviours when they suspect observation or possible scrutiny. It is a fantasy for most, just depends on placement.

We all get this. We all have somebody standing over us, offering endless constructive criticism about what we're doing. Rule of thumb, we get the most detailed and copious advice from the people who don't have the foggiest idea what we actually do for a living.
Whether you're flipping burgers or hooking up mergers, the guy above you is paid to tell you how to do it better, and because he gets paid more than you do, his opinions are pearls before swine.
It can even be lethal in some cases. Once in a while, some butterbar know-it-all lieutenant, fresh out of Officer Training School, tragically gets shot a half-dozen times by his own guys while leading them into a suicidal assault. I think we all wish that we had that option once in a while.

There is a time and a place for constuctive observations and input to the process. With all due respect to anyone performing a given task, just because that is always been done is self insurance and fear of change. Fragging aside.

On a lighter note... Nice satiric reversal. I don't know how many people realize how galling those note sessions can be. Having been through a few myself, I could never get past the fact that.. Of course this guy can tell me what's funny, he's a business man!

Now, that was very funny in its own right and it spawned a subsidiary fantasy—somehow get my boss to hear it and record whether he gets the irony. No need … he won’t. Your closing observation is correct. Office Shadow Day would only happen once, but not because the Suits are going away or will behave differently … which is why we mere cogs don’t actually propose such things at the monthly staff meeting.
