At Ricochet, we often compare ourselves to Facebook.  Members can like, share, post, comment, send private messages, etc.  But a few features in place —namely a Code of Conduct, intelligent and eloquent Members who are incredibly invested in the community (as evidenced this weekend!), and the existence of a small Membership fee to keep out the trolls—make Ricochet a more enjoyable experience than Facebook.

Now comes a new Harvard study that concludes that Facebook is as enjoyable as sex.

BOSTON (CBSDC) - Food, sex and Facebook posting views. It’s what your brain likes best.

The reward given by a person’s brain when a Facebook posting of theirs is viewed, liked and commented on has proven to be comparable in pleasure to the response from food and sex, according to a recent Harvard University study.

The research, which was published last month in an edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, found that social media outlets give way to an increased rate of “self-disclosure.” The increase in “self-disclosure” leads to a spike in the amount of dopamine produced based on the pleasure or anticipation of a reward as a result of a social-media post being viewed, according to the research.

Facebook, as enjoyable as sex.  Ricochet, better than Facebook.  Ergo, our new marketing slogan: Ricochet, better than sex and all only $3.67 per month.

For a good time, join Ricochet!

See, we need a "like" button for the main feed post, not just comments. Would that be good for you, Diane?

That settles it.  Peter, we are going to have to raise the price.

If facebook is as enjoyable as sex, you are doing it wrong.

That is naughty! My husband is always asking me what I am doing when I am on Ricochet because he hears me laughing or playing podcasts. Oh dear...

For a fair comparison, check Facebook (or Ricochet) again in 100,000 years. Still here?

Let me re-comment to say that the fact that no one commenting to this better-than-sex post will have to be booted for violating the Code of Conduct is a testament to our site. (Can I say "our" site?)

Doing facebook or sex wrong?

My wife is not allowed to see this post. She doesn't need another reason to ground me from Ricochet.

I asked my fiancé to look at the post before I published it, and he asked whether I was really prepared to invite all of the CoC violations that it would surely welcome.  "There will be no CoC violations," I responded proudly.

He keeps checking the comments to try to prove me wrong.

Well, at my age I may visit Ricochet more frequently than I have sex but it is NOT more enjoyable! (I don't do Facebook).
