Marshmallow World Disco edition

If you heard him guest-hosting this past week for Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh you'll already know this, of course, but our own Mark Steyn has returned from his year-long, global walkabout.  Mark will be participating on a Ricochet podcast soon.  But in the meantime, you'll find nothing more enjoyable this holiday season than Mark's annual Christmas CD.  The title this year?  "A Marshmallow World--Disco Fever Edition!"

With his co-host, Jessica Martin (who sings like an angel; if you imagine the voice of Ella Fitzgerald combined with the diction and phrasing of Barbara Cook, you'll have an idea) Mark provides some really marvelous entertainment; humorous, yes, but also musically irresistible.  I myself love the opening of the title song, which, before launching into the disco beat, opens with a lovely, meandering little ballad-like intro. And then there's "The King's New Clothes," in which Mark plays (needless to say) the king, half talking and half singing, in a manner reminiscent of Rex Harrision in "My Fair Lady."

If you're where I am right now--which is to say on your knees, wrapping Christmas gifts--you'll find nothing that makes quite as enjoyable an accompaniment to Christmas Eve as Mark Steyn and Jessica Martin. (Here's the CD on Amazon. You'll also find it on iTunes.)

Thanks for the heads up, Peter! Just got around to downloading the album yesterday while making a belated Christmas turkey feast. It's a short album so I listened with great enjoyment more than once. Too too fun and quirky.

So I'm standing at the kitchen island with my Bose earphones on, happily thwacking veggies with my brand new Santoku knife, silently mouthing "you make me feel like a gingerbread wooooman" as a cold winter wind raises whitecaps on the lake behind our house... The messy remains of 3 preteens' structurally questionable gingerbread house litter the kitchen table, and I glance over to see every kid in the house, even the oh-so-cool h.s. teens, laughing and dancing to some Wii danceoff competition. No need to yearn for the good old pre-technology days when the new stuff's so fun!

Loads of mahshmallow clouds bein' friendly in the ahms of the evergeen trees...

You should, Pseudo, you should. Had to go cold turkey on Rico posting for a few days (either that or I'd have had to just toss everyone's Christmas presents under the tree unwrapped with pricetags still on). In my time away I've come to the conclusion that I'm addicted to this site. Hello, my name is Diane and I'm a Ricoholic.

If anything's worth saying it's worth saying twice.
