I like Cdl. Tagle of the Philippines. Spengler at Asia Times Online makes a case for him. But I also like Cdl. Pell of Oz, though I don't think he has a chance.

I was not aware it was a tournament with rounds of elimination. I thought it was a sudden death showdown.

I, too, am thinking (and hoping) it will be Ouelett.

Then fire up the grill for the beaver kabobs!
In converting the native peoples of the Americas, several mammals were declared "fish" by the Church in the 17th Century for the purposes of Lent, among these are the capybara in Venezuela and the beaver in Canada.
Now, there are many interpretations of why the prohibition against meat. Some say it is the abstention of the flesh, others the idea of eating like the poor since in the early days of the Church meat was considered a rich man's diet.
Either way, the beaver doesn't give a d.... (No, I won't say it. Too easy.)

Maybe more like capture-the-flag, or free-for-all. Skillz do matter as there are no perks, power-ups, or mods. And the game map is pretty cool.

What? Arinze didn't make Sweet Sistine?

Wasn't he knocked out by Gonzaga in the round of 32?

Re: March Madness, Vatican Edition
I can't help noting they've made the two Americans play each other in the first round. But, no matter what, the Irish will be happy.

The frightening thing about EJ's picture is that Ouellet was a pretty good hockey player in his youth until an injury derailed him.

Re: March Madness, Vatican Edition
I love Cardinal Arinze, but since Benedict has made such a point about the Petrine Ministry needing someone younger and stronger, I doubt they will elect an octogenarian.

The idea of brackets is not entirely remiss. Any number of notables will be entertained. Slowly they will be dismissed in favor of another, narrowing the field until we get the white smoke.

Anthony LaRussa.
He's a Cardinal, he's Italian, and he's got managerial skills.

I was hoping this guy would make the Sweet Sistine...
Pope Guido I just sounds good.

Re: March Madness, Vatican Edition
That's another thing we could take bets on: What name will he choose?
This morning on the way to Mass I thought "Leo XIV might be nice." Pope Leo.
Paul VII?
Pius XIII?
John Paul III?
John XXIV?
Benedict XVII?
I don't suppose any would would dare take Peter II?
I'm liking Leo. The last Leo presided over the beginning of the renewal that has been going on since. And I love him for naming Newman Cardinal, when he wasn't even a bishop.
He said, "You will know what kind of pontificate I will have by the first Cardinal I name."
