Man Spotted in Airport With Radical Pamphlet

From Todd Zwicki at the Volokh Conspiracy:
While waiting in the airport yesterday morning flying back from Florida I looked over and saw a man intensely reading the Constitution (the Cato version). The text was already highlighted in several places and he was now underlining other passages. Turns out that it was new Congressman-elect Allen West of Florida. I’ve occasionally seen politicians when traveling but I am certain that’s the first time I’ve seen one actually reading the Constitution.
As Todd says, "maybe there's hope after all."

This is clearly good, even fantastic, news. An elected official who does more than simply pull out a laminated "show" copy of the Constitution that they have sworn fealty to, but haven't actually read and believed for most of their career. Can there be a better omen for our future, and the tea party wisdom, than this?

There is a bill on Congress that would call on members of Congress to read the Constitution once every year. It was derided by some as a stupid idea, and I'm not paraphrasing.

Gosh, being from Michigan, I thought that Congressmen read nothing but porn magazines when they got on planes.

Well, when your macbooks and concerts have gone missing from your Cadillac Escalade, I guess you have to buy a magazine in the airport. I suppose the dirty magazine is part of our budget ? So what about the tickets ? $27,000 declared value, hum.......

They actually let him on the plane with it?
With references to guns, capital punishment, "abortion".... surely he must of been up to something.

Which would be better for Us? Requiring all members to read The Constitution or requiring all members to read a bill before they can cast a vote on it?

It will take much less time to read the Constitution.

So... that's one vote for reading a bill before voting on it.

Re: Man Spotted in Airport With Radical Pamphlet
On a flight a couple of years ago, my wife and I were seated next to Pat Toomey and his wife in coach class. I remarked to him that with all the flying he'd be doing as Senator, he'd be automatically upgraded to First Class.
Pat and his wife both recoiled. "God, no," he replied, "never, ever, ever let a constituent see you in First Class."
Welcome aboard, Senator.

If it'll slow the buggers down, I'm all for requiring reading a bill and passing a reading comprehension test before being allowed to cast a vote.
