Lt. Col. Allen West

I share the his view, though I am not so knowledgeable and so not as confident in that view.
But the real story here is that Lieutenant Colonel West, now a Congressional Representative of Florida, was willing to state such a political incorrect view so straightforwardly in public.
That sort of political courage will be very necessary in the next decade... not only to face down our false allies in the OIC, but also to address the entitlement reform that our politicians have avoided for generations.
Check out West's stances on other issues.
Sorry, Florida, but we might have to steal this guy for a presidential run in 2012.

Great post, Aaron. Agree 100%. Love this guy. I loved him for some other awesome YouTube thing a couple of years back that I can't recall now, but he fell off my radar. He's back in a big way! By the way, do you know how recently he made these remarks?

Re: Lt. Col. Allen West
Thanks. The video was recorded in January of last year, I think.
I read about West on and off during his campaign, but forgot about him until I got this link in an email.

Re: Lt. Col. Allen West
I'm very impressed by West. I've heard the story of why he got disciplined while he was serving; he pulled a Dirty Harry on a terrorist captive, and it saved lives.
What he's saying is also worth praise. If the Koran says "do X" and the people have a long history of "doing X" and we have multiple recent cases where muslims have been "doing X," then to deny that muslims "do X" is irrational. We should expect some muslims of preparing to do more of it. That isn't prejudice, or a slam at all muslims. It's a reasonable application of what experience predicts.

Re: Lt. Col. Allen West
When I saw this YouTube (about a year ago?) I fell in love. I can't think of any politician's debate performance that was so solid and sure. Off the top of his head he delivered a response that most mortals would have had to spend a great deal of time preparing and editing.
I think we too often push young, green congressmen and senators as potential presidential candidates. West might be the exception to my rule. He may jump to the front of the pack and be "credited" for all his combat experience.

Re: Lt. Col. Allen West
This is a great guy and great post. I do not know why any Republican would be rejoicing. When he says “Until we get principled leadership….”, he is not only referring to O. and his cohorts but to GWB and the majority of GOP leadership. Now if he were in the leadership of the House I just might be able to get excited. Replace “Beltway Boehner” with “Warrior West” and you can bet something would get done.

Thanks Aaron - I watched this clip from an email link this week, too! Assuming Rep. West eventually gets the national attention he deserves, expect him to be the target of an unparalleled smear campaign. Sarah Palin grates against the leftist concept of what a woman should be, but Allen West will send Democrats into outright convulsions.

Re: Lt. Col. Allen West
And this is precisely why I do not believe in moderate Islam. If you're a sincere Muslim, you believe in the immutable edicts of the Koran and the Hadiths. You may not personally engage in jihad, but you will not resist when others do.
West is so impressive. America doesn't have a history of elevating Colonels to the Presidency, but these are desperate times. I would say the Vice Presidency, but for a man as fine as West, stepping into Joe Biden's shoes would be a big step down.

My wife and I were privileged to dine with Ken Blackwell on the 2008 National Review cruise. An enormously warm, engaging gentleman.

Absolutely. I've always placed Casimir among the 10 seminal figures in all of human history. Towards the top, actually.

Yes! Thanks so much, Cas.

Re: Lt. Col. Allen West
Brilliant stuff-I have put up a post or two myself wondering why Islam's history of violent conquest is ignored while we're still hearing about the Crusaders and other Western sins? It's quite the Hollywood staple these days.
